Mark Chesnutt, one of the greatest country voices of the ’90s, revealed today that he was forced to undergo emergency heart surgery over the weekend, and will have to step off the road while he recovers.
In a post to his social media, Chesnutt (or his team) said that he suffered an issue on Sunday, June 16 that forced him to undergo a quadruple bypass surgery, while asking for privacy during what the post calls “this difficult time of recovery.”
“It is with a heavy heart that I announce the cancellation of my upcoming shows. I send my love and gratitude to my family and friends, the band and fans for your understanding, prayers and support, and look forward to seeing you all again soon at a honky tonk near you.”
There’s no word on how long the recovery process will be, or how long Chesnutt will be off the road, but it sounds like the surgery was a success and he’s on the road to recovery.

Late last year, the “Too Cold At Home” singer was forced to cancel several shows after being hospitalized for undisclosed medical issues.
According to a later-deleted statement issued by his team, Mark was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday evening and is now in the Critical Care Unit, where he’s currently in stable condition.
The statement says that Mark is currently undergoing tests to identify the cause of his medical issues, and that further updates will be released once doctors have determined his condition.
“Mark and his management team regret we have had to cancel two shows this week. Mark was admitted to the hospital Wednesday evening and is now in the Critical Care Unit in stable condition. He is receiving care and undergoing multiple tests to identify the cause of his medical issues.
We would like to apologize to our fans that have always been so very supportive and hope you will keep Mark in your prayers. We will post more updates once the doctors determine his condition.”
And later, he revealed that he would be taking some time off the road to focus on his health and recovery.
At the time, Chesnutt said that he had experienced some “extreme health issues” due to what he calls “a battle that I’ve fought to overcome for many years on my own.”

I truly appreciate your heartfelt understanding in my commitment, and your sensitivity to my decision, and the privacy to allow me this time.
