This is going to be so dang cool.
Last night, Charles Wesley Godwin shared an epic new teaser of his Family Ties Trilogy, which will encompass three songs from his incredible 2023 Family Ties album including “Miner Imperfections,” “Another Leaf” and “Dance in Rain.”
The trailer starts out with the announcement on December 8th, 1941 that United States Congress had declared war on Japan, after the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor the previous day. From there, you see snippets of scenes of three different decades of the same family and what their life was like throughout The Great Depression, World War II, and into the “Golden Era” of the 1950’s.
While not necessarily directly inspired by the family tree of CWG himself, I imagine there was a lot of inspiration pulled from his own family history, similar to the aforementioned record, making this project all the more special and important.
In a post on Instagram, Godwin explained the meaning behind the trilogy:
“Excited to share something we’ve been working on for the last few months: The Family Ties Trilogy is a music video project and short film that follows the journey of a single family across three decades, narrated by three songs from Family Ties.
‘Miner Imperfections,’ ‘Another Leaf,’ and ‘Dance in Rain’ tell the story of a couple navigating life and building a family during The Great Depression, through World War II, and into the ‘Golden Era’ of the 1950s.
Shoutout to Justin Clough and everyone involved. This is a very meaningful project to me and I can’t wait to share it with you over the coming weeks.”

June 12 – Chapter 1 – “Miner Imperfections”
June 20 – Chapter 2 – “Another Leaf”
June 26 – Full short film release, including “Dance in Rain”
The production value is unreal, and I can’t wait to see how it all plays out. I always appreciate the time and attention CWG puts into everything he does, and music videos like this are a lost art in many ways, so I love that he’s doing it big in a way that’s meaningful to him.
