My favorite Megan Moroney release of this year.
The country star has had a heck of a 2026, after scoring her first ever #1 album on the Billboard Top 200 chart with her third studio album, Cloud 9, earlier this year. Of course, she first burst onto the scene four years ago with her song college football-themed song “Tennessee Orange,” and since then, she’s had hits like “6 Months Later.”
And today, she’s giving fans a more stripped-down, reflective song in “You for Me (Smoky Mountain Demo),” which she wrote with frequent collaborators Jessie Jo Dillon, Connie Harrington and Jessi Alexander.
She mentions all of the incredible things she’s seen in the song, and shared a collage on Instagram with some really cool photos:
Megan previously debuted it at her show in Nashville in August, and it finds her reflecting on a lost love and how nothing she’s seen, as incredible as it all was, has compared to him.
She does these kind of forlorn, melancholy songs so well, and even though she’s really leaned into her pop sensibilities with most of the songs on the aforementioned Cloud 9, for me, it’s her writing that has made her a star and this song has that on full display.
Even though she’s been to “Times Square on New Year’s Eve,” Graceland, and even bet and won on the “Grand Prix in Monaco,” nothing compares to the love of the guy she’s missing:
“I’ve been to Times Square on New Year’s Eve
Midnight confetti falling down on me
I’ve been to Vegas, I stayed in
One of those sky high presidential suites
What a dream
I’ve heard the voice of Elvis in Graceland down the hall
And I’ve seen the Smoky Mountains in the fall
But I’d take your eyes over every sky in Southern California
I’d trade a thousand Georgia nights for your kisses in the morning
I could go anywhere I swear around the world and go see all there is to see
But it’s always gonna be you for me”
She eventually runs into him again, and neither one of them really know what exactly went wrong, and she fully admits that she’s “far from moving on.” In fact, she’s “never moving on”:
“It’s so good to see you
It’s been way too long
How did we let something right go so wrong?
Hell I hate it, I’d change it
If you’re wondering I’m far from moving on
I’m never moving on”
I guess I’m just partial to songs about a lost love and heartbreakers like this, and I feel like Megan is in her wheelhouse when she writes these kinds of songs… there’s just something about this one I can’t get enough of.
I would LOVE if she released an entire album of songs like this, and considering the title seems to be from a writing session or something of that nature since it has “Smoky Mountain Demo” in the title, and if she has more where this came from, we need to hear it.
Do yourself a favor and check it out the new song here:

Megan also recently released a song called “Say When,” which was written for the soundtrack of the new season of the hit Netflix series Nobody Wants This:
