The downfall of having a busy touring schedule.
Over the past two years, Riley Green has cemented himself as a certified star on all fronts. From a pure music perspective, he’s grabbed three straight #1s with the likes of his appearance on Ella Langley’s “you look like you love me,” his second collaboration with the fellow Alabama native, “Don’t Mind If I Do” and his steamy ballad, “Worst Way.” Additionally, he’s stirred the pot on social media a countless number of times thanks to seemingly never-ending dating rumors surrounding him and various artists such as Langley. Undoubtedly, Green has quickly become one of the biggest stars in country music lately. With that being said, however, it seems as if he’s not just limiting himself to music in the future.
Earlier in the year, the Alabama native made his acting debut on Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone spinoff series, Marshals, appearing in four episodes alongside Luke Grimes back in April. Though Marshals, as a whole, didn’t receive as much love compared to other entries in the Yellowstone franchise, fans of the “I Wish Grandpas Never Died” singer absolutely loved him venturing into acting.
It seems as if Green himself was also a fan of the whole process, telling Entertainment Tonight that it was an incredibly fulfilling process that he was proud of.
“There was something really fulfilling about being able to go and accomplish something in a window of time. I love being on tour, but that never really ends. The tour might change names every year, but it’s just a constant. We’re always going to be playing shows and traveling around.”
With that being said, however, it wasn’t a cakewalk by any measure. Unlike most actors, who were only booked for their roles in Marshals at the time, Green was still out on the road touring. Because of this, he had to bounce around the set and wherever his tour was heading, oftentimes shooting Monday through Wednesday and touring Thursday through Saturday.
“We booked two flights a week to Utah. I would fly out on a Sunday and film Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. Fly wherever the bus was on Thursday. Play Thursday, Friday, Saturday. (Fly back to Utah on Sunday). I did that for a month and a half, and it wore me out.
That was in the part of the year too where we are usually slowing down, you know? Around the holidays. So it was a… I think the next thing I do in that world, I’ll make sure I carve out some time from touring to where I can really live in that space for a little while.”
Because of the grueling schedule, Green has one regret about his role in the Taylor Sheridan series. In an appearance on Theo Von’s podcast, This Past Weekend, the 37-year-old singer/songwriter would admit that he wished that he could have dedicated more time to his role as Garrett.
In particular, the “Think As You Drunk” singer would explain that he feels like he didn’t get to know Garrett as much as he wanted, not even knowing his entire backstory while filming. Given this, he’d note that there are many things he would have done differently while watching the performance back afterwards.
“I feel like I didn’t know enough about the character. I was getting the script for that day, and I didn’t know any of the backstory. So when I went and watched it, there were so many things I would’ve done differently if I would’ve known this about the character or that. I would have really enjoyed if I could’ve just lived in that world and filmed for a month.
Recently, Green would go on record and say that he’s been reading more scripts for future roles, both in dramas and comedies, so I wouldn’t be surprised if we see him in another series or film, with time carved out for it, sometime in the near future.
