The President of United States is declaring that all American flags should be lowered to half staff for one week following the passing of Dolly Parton.
We all knew that Dolly Parton was struggling with some health issues, and that it was serious enough to keep her from making many public appearances that she had planned. But I don’t think any of us were ready for the news when we found out that the “Queen of Country Music” had passed on at the age of 80.
Her team provided this statement, and said that the country icon passed peacefully in her home state of Tennessee:
“A rhinestone life that shone bright enough for the world to see, Dolly will forever stand as an inspiration not only through her timeless music and prolific songwriting, but also her wit, warmth, and kindness that made us all feel like family.
Dolly Parton’s legacy is one of love, compassion, and resilience. With a seven-decade career, she inspired multiple generations of artists and fans with her music and an unwavering commitment to making the world a better place. Her songs will continue to resonate with people of all ages, and her philanthropic work will have a lasting impact.”
Though Parton obviously rose to stardom thanks to her singing and songwriting (paired with her larger than life personality), it’s hard to really say where she made the biggest impact. She was also an actress, playwright, author and philanthropist, and her work through her Imagination Library to donate millions upon millions of books is one of the most successful and impactful charities ever created.
Everything she touched turned to gold (she would probably prefer the word “rhinestone” there), and everything she did was an effort to leave the world better than how she found it. That’s why Donald Trump took to social media earlier today to declare that all American flags across the United States be lowered to half-staff for one week in honor of Dolly Parton:
“Very sad to report that Dolly Parton, one of the greatest country singers, and far beyond, EVER, has just passed away. This is a true loss for millions of people. There has never been anyone like her, and never will. In her honor, I am lowering the American flag throughout the United States for a one week period beginning tonight at 6:00 PM. Rest in Peace, Dolly! The World loves you. President DONALD J. TRUMP.”
Dolly Parton left such an impact on the world that the entirety of the United States is coming together to honor her life and legacy.
As tributes pour in on social media, it’s clear that Dolly Parton was the one thing everyone could agree on. She was undoubtedly the most beloved person on the planet, and that’s why the news of her passing is hitting so hard for so many. Everyone from all walks of life loved the “9 to 5” singer… and now, the country is coming together to mourn her loss and show respect by lowering all flags for an entire week.
