Her Middle of Nowhere era continues.

Today, Kacey Musgraves released two new songs, “Mi Tesoro” and “Weekend In Texas,” which will be part of her just-announced Middle of Nowhere Vol. 2: Tex Mex Tapes, an expansion project that follows her her sixth studio album Middle of Nowhere which she put out in May.

This new project is even bigger than the first album, though, as it contains 16 songs, including four sung entirely in Spanish, and of course has tons of influence from her native Texas as well as Mexico, where she’s been living a lot of the last year or two.

Middle of Nowhere focused a lot on themes of solitude, contentment, and finding beauty in the in-between, and that will continue to be huge themes in the Tex Mex Tapes. Texas and Mexico have such a deep-rooted connection and this fusion feels so natural for her, and I am loving this sound because it feels so unique and authentically Kacey.

Kacey’s Middle of Nowhere album was co-produced by her alongside longtime collaborators Daniel Tashian and Ian Fitchuk, and it of course featured the highly-anticipated duet with Miranda Lambert, “Horses and Divorces,” in addition to the super talented Billy Strings on the album. She also featured legendary Texan, Willie Nelson, on a song called “Uncertain, TX,” which was a chart-topper at Texas radio.

It’s pretty surprising that she’s going to drop another massive project so soon after putting out another full-length album, and this one is even bigger, but it seems like she’s really found a sound that she’s loving, and fans are loving it too, so why not keep giving everyone more? I’m here for it… I loved Middle of Nowhere, I thought the whole tracklist was really impressive and there were some incredible standouts, and I think we’re in for more of the same on this next volume:

“★ 𝐌𝐢𝐝𝐝𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐍𝐨𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐕𝐨𝐥. 𝟐: 𝐓𝐞𝐱 𝐌𝐞𝐱 𝐓𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐬 ★ everywhere January 15. Two songs: 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐧 𝐓𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐬 + 𝐌𝐢 𝐓𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐨 drop at midnight.”

Middle of Nowhere Vol. 2: Tex Mex Tapes drops on January 15th, 2027:

Speaking of how good Middle of Nowhere is, Kacey is one of the most-nominated artists at the CMA Awards this year with five nominations, including Album of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year, as well as Song of the Year and Music Video of the Year for “Dry Spell”, and Musical Event of the Year for “Horses and Divorces” with Miranda Lambert.

She is currently on the road for her Middle of Nowhere tour, it’s an incredible show and you should definitely check it out if she’ll be anywhere near you, and if she’s not, I have to imagine she will be expanding the tour and continuing it into 2027 now.
