Hear that? It’s the collective sound of all of the haters and the losers that were saying the 2026 World Cup would be a failure because it was being primarily hosted by the U.S. shedding tears.
The 2026 World Cup really just revealed what us Americans knew all along… the United States of America is the greatest country in the world. The largest single-sport tournament in the world was nothing short of spectacular, and proved once again that sports is the great unifier. All across the United States throughout the tournament, international World Cup fans from all corners of the world had an absolute blast here in the States, and heaped tons of praise of the good citizens of this country.
That, in addition to the many exciting games that led to the Spain-Argentina finale this past weekend (Spain emerged victorious), makes it safe to say the North American World Cup was a huge success. Of course, leading up to this year’s tournament, there was a ton of negative discourse on social media about how much America sucks and how it would be a terrible place to host the World Cup.
From the folks on the ground, it was nothing short of incredible.
And it’ll go down in the history books as the highest ever attended World Cup. FIFA shared earlier today that the total attendance for all of the games from June and July reached just shy of 7,000,000. The previous record was the 1994 FIFA World Cup (also hosted by the U.S.) which drew in 3,587,538 spectators:
“The highest-ever combined FIFA World Cup attendance. Thanks to each and every one of you for helping to make this the biggest edition yet!”
Granted, there were more soccer games this year because of the expanded format, but even so… the previous record would have likely been easily surpassed. It sure seems like the host to choose if FIFA wants to maximize attendance is the United States of America.
Fans of the world cup flooded the reply section of the above post to compliment this year’s tournament, credit America (and Mexico and Canada) for being a great host country, and proclaim that the U.S. should be the host once again sooner rather than later:
