Hank Williams Jr. Postpones Pair Of Michigan Concerts Due To Wildfire Smoke

Hank Williams Jr. is having to move some of his 2026 tour dates around due to some unforeseen, air quality situations playing out in the Great Lakes States.

Wildfires burning in Canada and Minnesota have led to some horrible air quality in some midwest states, and the conditions even forced the postponement of Hank William’s Jr.’s Michigan concerts that he had planned for this upcoming weekend. The “Family Tradition” singer was supposed to play in Clarkston (Pine Knob Music Theatre) and Grand Rapids (Acrisure Amphitheater) on Saturday and Sunday, but his team headed the warnings of health officials and decided to push those shows back about a month.

Dr. Devang Doshi, a Corewell Health pulmonologist, told The Detroit News that he’s never seen the air quality get this bad in the state of Michigan:

“This is really bad. I don’t recall seeing levels like this even a couple years ago.”

Hank Williams Jr. and his team decided to make the tough call to postpone the shows just a few hours ago… about a day before his Saturday show in Clarkston was set to take place. The country music star said in a statement that they are choosing to move the shows out of an abundance of caution, since the air quality could create hazardous conditions for fans:

“Out of an abundance of caution regarding air quality, this weekend’s Hank Williams Jr. shows in Michigan have been postponed and rescheduled to August 13 at Pine Knob Music Theatre and August 14 at Acrisure Amphitheater. All previously purchased tickets will be honored for the new dates. More information will be emailed directly to ticketholders.”

Postponement is obviously better than a cancellation, but its still a bummer for all the country fans that had made their way to Michigan in anticipation of the two concert dates.

Many took to the comment section of that post to express their disappointment. Though it’s not an ideal situation, this is one of those things where the conditions were entirely out of the control of Hank Williams Jr. and his team. Obviously a wildfire sending smoke to Michigan is an unforeseeable issue, but that didn’t stop some from ripping into the late postponement:

“Announcing this 24 hours before the show is wild, and no emails were sent out either.”

“Hank I am so incredibly disappointed and sad right now. Drove 9 hours to see you and on hour 9 of the drive, I see it’s cancelled.”

“Damn it, I was excited to go.”

“Man, I was looking forward to getting down tomorrow at Acrisure but August will be just fine!”

“Thought we loved a little smoke.”

Well… not that kind of smoke.

With the news of the two concert postponements, here’s how Bocephus’ remaining tour dates look for 2026. Those originally planning on attending the Michigan shows this weekend will still have a chance to see Hank Williams Jr. in about a month:
