Of course Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce tied the knot with a massive wedding at Madison Square Garden on July 3rd, which was a giant spectacle that resulted in streets being shut down around New York City and giant crowds of Swifties forming outside of Madison Square Garden – despite the fact that they couldn’t see anything that was going on inside the arena.
Other than a few leaks (like the napkins that featured a questionable Taylor Swift lyric), the details of the wedding have remained pretty locked down thanks to NDAs and strict security measures put into place by the couple and their teams.
Considering there were over a thousand people in attendance, it’s kind of shocking that literally nothing of substance has leaked, and I can only imagine what the consequences would be if someone somehow let anything out… I certainly would not want to be that person, but I digress…
It was a star-studded affair, with the likes of Selena Gomez, Ed Sheeran, Jennifer Lopez, Brad Pitt, Bradley Cooper, Gigi Hadid, Patrick and Brittany Mahomes, and plenty more celebrities in attendance, and Adam Sandler even officiated the ceremony.
Several country music artists went too, of course Taylor got her start in country music, which included Miranda Lambert and her husband Brendan, Kelsea Ballerini, Maren Morris, The Chicks, Little Big Town, Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush and Brad Paisley and his wife, actress Kimberly Williams-Paisley.
But one of country’s most iconic ladies, Mrs. Shania Twain, was unable to be there, for a pretty funny reason… she was opening for one of Taylor’s ex’s, Harry Styles. according to Google, Swift and Styles dated briefly from late 2012 to early 2013, and apparently Styles was actually invited to the wedding, along with his fiancée Zoë Kravitz, who is a close friend of Taylor, and she attended solo because Harry just wrapped up a 12-night residency at Wembley Stadium for his Together, Together tour.
Shania and Taylor go way back, obviously Swift grew up a huge fan of Twain as a child of the 90s, and Shania joked that she would be happy to one day perform at Harry’s wedding if she “was available.”
She revealed to ETalkCTV that she did receive an invitation, though she had already committed to opening for Harry and she couldn’t make it work, with the interviewer joking it was because she was opening for one of Taylor’s ex’s. To be fair, she has quite a few of those in the entertainment industry, (though it seems she and Styles have no “bad Blood,” pun very much intended):
“If I was available I would. Taylor Swift invited me to her wedding, and I couldn’t go because I was already committed to Harry’s shows. So that’s why I say that, because it’s just kind of funny that that happened that way… I was already committed.
No but I mean, I would have done anything to be at Taylor’s wedding, I would have done anything, and that would have been really lovely for me to bet here. But I was with Harry, and so that’s why I’m saying, if Harry ever gets married and he wants me at his wedding then he’s going to have to ask me more in advance.”
Taylor and Shania first met in 2008, when a then-teenaged Swift wrote about being completely starstruck because Shania walked up to her to introduce herself and tell her she was a fan. They later performed together at the 2019 American Music Awards and remain friends, and have done several other things together over the years, but still… the whole situation with why Shania had to miss the wedding of the year is pretty funny:
