A ’90s country great.

This past weekend Koe Wetzel played the Allen County Fair in Lima, Ohio as he continues his trek on The Night Champion World Tour, and he pulled out a 90s country classic for the crowd.

Koe covered David Lee Murphy’s “Dust on the Bottle,” which was released in 1995 as the fourth single from the album Out with a Bang. The song hit number one on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks in late 1995, and became Murphy’s first number one hit. It would remain his only number one single until almost 23 years later, when he topped the country charts again with “Everything’s Gonna Be Alright” in 2018. It has since been certified platinum.

We’ve heard Koe do tons of covers at his shows over the years, from country to plenty of other genres like “Supersonic,” “Queen of My Double Wide Trailer,” “You Never Even Call Me by My Name,” “In Too Deep,” “My Own Worst Enemy” and others, but this is one I’ve never heard him do before and I’m here for it.

With Koe’s most recent album The Night Champion, he definitely continues to evolve with his sound, as it’s still that mix of country and grunge, but definitely contains more depth and a difference pace than his previous albums. I guess that’s part of growing up… he’s getting married soon and has a young daughter now, and so it makes sense that his music would evolve with those life changes.

But if that means we’re going to keep getting country covers, I’m here for it… he sounds great on this, and I think it suits his style to keep going with the nostalgic covers like this because he does it so well. Koe asked the crowd to help him sing it in case he forgot the words, but he did a great job and you can check it out there:
