Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” Is Now The Longest-Running #1 Hit By A Female Artist On Billboard’s Hot Country Songs Chart

Ella Langley

Another week, another record.

If you think it’s been hard to keep up with all the headlines surrounding Ella Langley and her generational run over the past six months, I wouldn’t even blame you at this point. After riding the highs of 2024’s Riley Green collaboration, “you look like you love me” all the way into the end of 2025, the Alabama native dropped what can only be described as a cultural phenomenon at this point with “Choosin’ Texas.”

As it stands today, “Choosin’ Texas” is the longest-running #1 hit by a female country artist on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 (nine non-consecutive weeks), the only country song by a woman to triple up and go #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100, Hot Country and Country Airplay chart simultaneously and just the seventh country song solely recorded by a woman to go #1 on the Hot 100 in the history of the chart.

In case that wasn’t enough, thanks to the success of her sophomore album, Dandelion, which debuted at #1 on the all-genre Billboard 200 and sold 169,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in its first week, Langley became just the second woman in history to hold the #1 album and song in the U.S. simultaneously with a country song/album. Of course, Taylor Swift was the first, going #1 with Red (Taylor’s Version) and “All Too Well (Taylor’s Version)” back in 2021.

She’d make even more history back on May 18th when “Choosin’ Texas” spent its 10th week at #1 on the Hot 100 and “Be Her” held strong at #2 for a second straight week. In turn, she became the first country artist IN HISTORY to hold the Top 2 songs in the United States simultaneously for more than one week. This broke her out a tie with Morgan Wallen, who became the first country artist to do so upon the release of I’m The Problem last May, when he owned the top three songs with “What I Want,” “Just in Case” and “I’m the Problem.”

Shockingly, especially considering the year that Langley has had so far, it’s been a pretty quiet month from a charting-perspective. This is all thanks to Drake’s ICEMAN, and its two accompanying projects, MAID OF HONOUR and HABIBTI. Given the fact that Drake has been arguably the most successful American artist in history, he’s been on a tear following its release, with the lead single, “Janice STFU,” dehtroning “Choosin’ Texas” at #1 on the Hot 100. This week, Ariana Grande’s “Hate That I Made You Love Me” took over and blocked Langley from her 11th week at #1.

Despite the three-week absence at #1 on the Hot 100, the smash hit is still continuing its dominance on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, and it has just allowed the Alabama native to capture yet another record.

This week, “Choosin’ Texas” spent its 28th frame at #1 on Hot Country Songs, with a total of 27 million streams, 48.9 million impressions on radio and 8,000 units sold. In turn, the track is now the longest-running #1 by a female artist in the chart’s history, passing Gabby Barrett’s massive 27-week run in 2020-21 with “I Hope.”

As it stands today, “Choosin’ Texas” is now the fourth biggest hit in the history of the Hot Country Songs chart, behind only Bebe Rexha and Florida Georgia Line’s “Meant to Be” (50 weeks), Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” (45 weeks) and Sam Hunt’s “Body Like a Back Road” (34 weeks).

Given how strong “Choosin’ Texas” is holding on all fronts, it’s incredibly likely to pass “Body Like a Back Road” by late July. Additionally, it has a realistic shot at dethroning the monstrosity that is “Meant to Be” if Langley can stay hot throughout the summer and into the fall. Of course, this would be a difficult task if tourmate, Morgan Wallen, ends up releasing any recently-teased tracks. At this point, however, anything is possible for country music’s newest superstar.
