Channing Wilson Details His Role In ‘Marshals’ & Connection To The Taylor Sheridan Universe: “In That World Now”

Channing Wilson is one of the Yellowstone/Taylor Sheridan Universe’s biggest assets.

The Georgia native recently joined the Whiskey Riff Raff podcast to talk to us about why he shifted from a songwriter to an artist, how “Bro Country” was a dark time in Nashville, the influences that have helped to shape his music over the years, and not being a fan of the social media upkeep that most artists have to endure.

Wilson actually went on to tell us that, in order to avoid social media, he agreed to do the new singing competition series called The Road. He discussed his experience as a part of the show, told us about how his Landman and Yellowstone connections helped him get on it, and shared that he’s got a new album on the way.

Let’s take a moment to talk about those Taylor Sheridan connections, shall we?

In addition to being a songwriter and a country music artist, Wilson can boast that he’s one of the important cogs in the Taylor Sheridan machine. He works closely with Andrea von Foerster – the music supervisor that has collaborated with Sheridan on every single one of his shows (over 10 and counting).

Channing Wilson was entrusted by her to write songs for Yellowstone and Landman, and that led him to being a part of the singing competition series The Road that Sheridan and Blake Shelton partnered on to bring to life:

“I was writing songs for Andrea von Foerster, who does all the music for the ‘Yellowstone’ shows and now does ‘Landman.’ I called her one day and we were talking about something else.

This was in 2023 and I was out opening for Wheeler Walker Jr. in Idaho somewhere promoting the first album. She goes, ‘Hey I’ve got this crazy idea that I think you might be interested in.’ She told me a little bit about it. I said, ‘When it comes around, let me know.'”

Pretty cool gig, eh?

Being on The Road and continuing his work with Foerster led Wilson to hitch on with the new Yellowstone spinoff Marshals, which just finished airing it’s first season on CBS (Season 2 will premiere in the fall). Wilson ended up appearing multiple times in the show’s first season, and it seems like he and Andrea von Foerster’s partnership will continue as more and more Taylor Sheridan shows pop up and progress:

“I’m kind of in that world now, and I’m very happy to be there… I haven’t played any of this (new) record, but I’ll be playing it for them soon.”

Can’t wait to hear some of Channing Wilson’s new music on upcoming Taylor Sheridan shows. And if you’d like to hear some music from the “Blues Comin’ On” singer in person, I know just the place to go. While Wilson sat down with us, he also touched on his upcoming festival date at the Carolina Country Music Fest.

Some of the best artists in country music – including Riley Green, Tucker Wetmore, Flatland Cavalry and Post Malone – will be there in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina June 4 through June 7. It’s four days of great country music, right on the shores of Myrtle Beach. Make sure to get your tickets while you still can!

Channing Wilson will be there, and you can hear more from the country singer by checking out the interview on YouTube or making sure to download the podcast on Apple Podcasts by searching “Whiskey Riff Raff” or by clicking here.

We’re also available on Spotify and wherever else you can listen to podcasts.

Cheers, y’all.
