Peyton Manning is evidently a big fan of Charley Crockett.
The former NFL quarterback has crossed over with the country music world plenty of times. Whether it be popping up on stage with country stars like Parker McCollum, or hosting the CMA Awards, Peyton Manning loves country music, and for the most part, country music loves him back.
It’s not out of the norm to see Peyton Manning brushing elbows with figures of the country music world. In fact, it’s not all that surprising to see Manning hanging out in Nashville (more on that in a bit). So when Charley Crockett took to his social media to share a picture of him with the NFL legend, it was all par for the course.
It appears that Peyton Manning celebrated his 50th birthday and the football player who was also known as “The Sheriff” in his playing days apparently asked Charley Crockett to come play, and the country music singer was happy to do so:
“Thanks for havin’ me out Sheriff. I can pay for another record now, Peyton Manning.”
Great picture… and what’s that at the end of the caption? Charley can pay for another record, eh?
The timing of Crockett’s picture with “The Sheriff” is quite ironic, considering he just recently implied that he got in trouble with the law and the “law won.” In case you didn’t hear, Charley Crockett surprise dropped an album titled Clovis just three weeks after the third installment of his Sagebrush Trilogy – Age of the Ram – was released.
Shortly after the independently released album hit streaming (Age of the Ram was the third and final album Charley released with Island Records), it was taken down. It appears that releasing Clovis so close to his previously released project violated some sort of contractual obligation Crockett had with his former label, which would make sense as to why a) the album disappeared from streaming and b) Crockett released a “Please Stand By” message that was set to the song “I Fought The Law” by The Bobby Fuller Four.
When Charley’s fans saw the picture of him with Peyton Manning, and more importantly the caption that read “I can pay for another record now,” they started clamoring for Clovis to return:
“Can we have Clovis now?”
“The suits can’t stop Charley.”
“Need Clovis back more than I need air to breathe.”
“Hopefully Clovis will come back out.”
“FREE CLOVIS.”
If it comes out that Peyton Manning asking Charley Crockett to play at an event of his actually helps the country artist afford to release Clovis once again (not sure how that would still play out, but we can dream, can’t we?), the former football player would make Charley’s fanbase incredibly happy.
And because I mentioned Peyton Manning crossing over with country music earlier, I’d be remiss if I didn’t direct you to this video of the two-time Super Bowl winner singing David Allan Coe’s country classic “You Never Even Called Me by My Name” at Loser’s in Nashville:
