It wasn’t just Stagecoach that was battling weather conditions yesterday.
All over the United States, it seemed like country music fans were fighting Mother Nature. Things at Stagecoach in California were a mess when high-speed winds forced the festival to rearrange its schedule, canceling sets for artists like Riley Green. Over in Nebraska, Zach Bryan and his band were battling extreme thunderstorms, but miraculously still somehow managed to get to “Revival” to close out the night in the pouring rain.
However, for country fans in Texas attending the Lonestar Smokeout in Arlington, their night was cut short when severe thunderstorms ripped through the DFW area. As a Texas resident, I can confirm it was a wild scene. I have not seen thunder and lightning like that in a hot minute.
The day was running smoothly until about 15 minutes into Koe Wetzel‘s set, which was set to start at 8:25 according to the festival’s schedule. Some fans at the show, however, reported on social media that Wetzel actually went on earlier than planned, likely because the storms were trying to give fans as much of the performance as possible. After Wetzel got through a few songs, the lighting and the threat of storms caused the festival to pull the plug on his set to ensure that all fans could get home or to shelter safely.
Fans shared that fellow concertgoers were not thrilled with this, given that it was not raining (yet), and everyone was being told to evacuate the grounds before the storms got worse.

However, once Wetzel was offstage, he was clearly not ready to end his night and still had quite a few songs left in him that he was unable to perform on the Lonestar Smokeout stage. Instead of heading home, Wetzel headed for shelter at the nearby Texas Live! Right next to AT&T Stadium, it’s a mecca of bars and restaurants, and it’s a dream location to watch sports games, as the central area features numerous large TVs. The central area also features a stage, where some artists will perform at times.
See where I’m going with this…
Wetzel took the quick trip across the parking lot to perform a pop-up acoustic show for Texas Live! patrons after his set was cancelled. Wetzel opened his set to the packed house with “February 28, 2016,” and the place roared as fans sang along to his beloved arrest story.

Many of Wetzels’ fans made their way to Texas Live! and shared their gratitude that the “Sweet Dreams” singer still managed to put on the show despite the weather trying to stop him. A storm ain’t going to stop this Texas rock and roller from singing to his fans.
Good on Koe Wetzel for still finding a way to put on a show. That’s a man who cares about the folks who support his career.
