Jason Kelce Just Won A NASCAR Race…As A Pit Crew Member

How many side quests does this guy have?

Ever since Jason Kelce wrapped up his Hall of Fame career with the Philadelphia Eagles, he’s seemingly been everywhere. He of course has his New Heights podcast with his brother, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, but he also signed a massive broadcasting deal with ESPN that has seen the network send him to cover…well, pretty much everything.

Earlier this month there was a big debate around whether or not we’ve reached the point of Jason Kelce oversaturation after he showed up at the Par 3 tournament of The Masters with ESPN, complete with an iconic Augusta National caddy uniform.

Heck, Jason was even in my hometown of Huntington, West Virginia recently for…something. I heard rumors he was working on a podcast while he was there, so it sounds like he may have yet another new project in the works. Which also might explain why he showed up today at…Talladega Superspeedway.

Kelce has been on hand all weekend with the #17 pit crew of Corey Day in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series.

And today during the O’Reilly Series race, Kelce even assisted the Hendrick Motorsports pit crew with their stops:

Day even had a pit road sign with Kelce’s face on it for his pit stops:

Now, I’m not entirely sure what Kelce was doing there. Maybe it’s something for ESPN, or maybe it’s another side quest for a podcast, or something entirely different. Maybe it was just a way for Hendrick to get some attention on their O’Reilly Series team and pit crews.

And there are a lot of former football players who go on to serve on NASCAR pit crews, but I have a feeling Kelce isn’t looking for a career change any time soon.

Whatever the reason, Hendrick might just keep him around, because with the help of Kelce on his pit crew, rookie Corey Day managed to score his first career O’Reilly Auto Parts Series win – and make Jason Kelce a winning NASCAR pit crew member.

After the win, Day said that Kelce had spent time at the Hendrick Motorsports shop leading up to the race, and had practiced with the pit crew while spending time in all three positions, including jack man, fueler and tire changer. And the driver joked that now he’s going to have to keep Kelce on his crew:

“I’m gonna try to get him to a couple more, because it seems like he’s a good luck charm for me.”

What a time to be alive.

Of course it’s probably not going to help with the Kelce oversaturation talk that flared up during the Masters, when many complained that the former Philadelphia Eagles player is on their screen too much these days:

It’s undeniable, though, that someone of his caliber promoting NASCAR – and even jumping in and helping out with a pit crew – is great for the sport’s profile. I mean, I wouldn’t be writing about the O’Reilly Series race right now if it weren’t for the Kelce storyline, and I’m sure we’ll see much more of his time with Hendrick Motorsports whenever he releases…whatever it is he’s working on.

I guess the next step is to get him behind the wheel of a car.
