Is the “Music City Super Bowl” a done deal?
Many have assumed that Nashville would be a prime candidate to host the “Big Game” once they get their new, indoor Nissan Stadium up and running. It’s set to be complete in 2027, and once it is, the city will be an immediate contender for some of the world’s biggest events. The enclosed stadium will be located on the East Bank of Nashville, close to where the existing Nissan Stadium stands.
It’s set to be a 1.75 million square feet facility, and will be locked in for a lease of 30 years, meaning that the Titans aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.
The stadium was designed by Manica Architecture, which has previously designed other sports arenas such as Allegiant Stadium, NRG Stadium, and Wembley Stadium. The Titans’ new home will be able to house 55,000 to 60,000 people (which is smaller than their current stadium), and though the Titans went through with the project to refresh their home, it was also done in hopes of bringing in hosting opportunities for other sporting events like the NCAA Final Four and, of course, the Super Bowl.
There was some hope that Nashville would be named the site of the 2029 Super Bowl. However, it was recently announced that the “Big Game” would be returning to Las Vegas, Nevada in 2029. So that pushed the earliest availability for Nashville back a year, and according to longtime sports radio host Dan Patrick, 2030 will be the year that the new and improved Nissan Stadium will host the Super Bowl.
He heard from a source this past weekend that it’s official:
“The 2030 Super Bowl, I was informed by a source on Saturday, that it is signed and ready to go, in his opinion. Nashville is getting the 2030 Super Bowl. I haven’t seen any reports on this, and if there is a report on it, I’ll acknowledge that. But this is what I was told on Saturday. Nashville is getting the 2030 Super Bowl… they’ve got a new stadium coming in. That always helps.”
There you have it… I’ve got a feeling that Dan Patrick – an esteemed and plugged-in figure in the sports world – wouldn’t just blurt something out like that if he didn’t feel really good about it being true.
And it’s no surprise really. NFL executive vice president of events, Peter O’Reilly, and NFL Commissioner, Roger Goodell, have both openly talked about how excited they are that Nashville is getting an upgraded stadium. Goodell has previously described Nashville as a “Super Bowl ready city,” and the 2030 Super Bowl would be perfect timing, considering the opening of the Titans’ new home is scheduled for 2027.
Typically, a Super Bowl won’t be hosted in a brand new venue. The NFL likes to wait around three years for a new stadium to be open before choosing it to host the “Big Game.” Super Bowl LXIV would be played in February of 2030, around three years after the new Nissan Stadium is set to open.
And according to Dan Patrick, that’s exactly how it’s all going to play out… but perhaps the bigger question: Will country music finally get its Super Bowl halftime show? If not in 2030…. when?
