Another stone cold country heartbreaker.
Today, Riley Green released a brand new song called “My Way,” which he’s been teasing for about a year now. It’s right in his wheelhouse as a sad country song, written by Riley and Colton Seable, where he finds himself wishing he could have an ex back in his arms if things would go “his way,” hence the title”:
“If I had it my way,
I would blink and we’d disappear somewhere, somehow
Have a little bit of red wine into coffee cups watching the stars come out
Have an Al Green record on,
Dance a little by the fireplace
We’d make our love then we’d just lay
If I had it my way
Call me up and say ‘I need you now and I can’t go another day’
I’d say ‘You’re all I ever think about, and I’d give anything to see your face’
You’d say, ‘I miss you’
I’d say, ‘I don’t know how much more I can take’
You’d say, ‘I’m on my way’
If I had it my way”
I think it has a great melody and is really catchy while still being pure country, and I’m really excited we finally have the full studio cut of this one because I’ve been obsessed with it since he started teasing it in 2025. And it’s not just a regular song release, as it comes just two days ahead of Riley making his acting debut on Marshals alongside Luke Grimes (Kayce Dutton). Riley will play the song at some point on the show (though likely not in full), as he plays Garrett, who is a former Navy SEAL teammate of Kayce Dutton.
Garrett arrives at the ranch unexpectedly, hoping to lean on his friends Kayce and Cal (Logan Marshall-Green) to help “put the demons of his past to rest.” Marshals has dropped a few clips where we see glimpses of Riley as an actor, including an almost full scene of Garrett talking to Kayce about why he’s suddenly showed back up after ten years:
They also shared a clip with several snapshots from his time on the show, and we see him appear at Kayce’s ranch, saying he just wanted to see an old Team’s buddy, though not everyone is convinced he has pure intentions.
You see a montage of what looks like a very troubled character, there’s also a shot of him sitting around a campfire with a guitar, which is presumably when we’ll hear him play “My Way”:
It’s no secret that Taylor Sheridan and all of his shows within the Yellowstone universe have helped make country music immensely popular, and I’m surprised it took them this long to get even one of his songs featured, but he’s a perfect fit, and it will be really fun for fans to both see him act, and hear his song, on the show. It’s unclear if this single is part of some sort of a forthcoming album, but it’s been almost two years since he released Don’t Mind If I Do, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see him put another record out at some point this year, especially with the rest of his career firing on all cylinders,
“My Way” is a great song, and you can listen to it here:
