With Las Vegas Landing 2029 Super Bowl, Will Nashville Be Up Next In 2030?

Will 2030 be the year that Tennessee hosts the Super Bowl for the first time ever?

Once the new Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee is complete in 2027, the city will be an immediate contender for some of the world’s biggest events. The enclosed stadium itself will be located on the East Bank of Nashville, close to where the existing Nissan Stadium stands. It will be a 1.75 million square feet facility, and will be locked in for a lease of 30 years, meaning that the Titans aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.

The stadium was designed by Manica Architecture, which has previously designed other sports arenas such as Allegiant Stadium, NRG Stadium, and Wembley Stadium. The Titans’ new home will be able to house 55,000 to 60,000 people (which is smaller than their current stadium), and though the Titans went through with the project to refresh their home, it was also done in hopes of bringing in hosting opportunities for other sporting events like the NCAA Final Four and, of course, the Super Bowl.

There was some hope that Nashville would be named the site of the 2029 Super Bowl. However, it was just announced this week that the “Big Game” would be returning to Las Vegas, Nevada in 2029. So now, that leaves the new Nissan Stadium primed and ready to push for 2030.

NFL executive vice president of events Peter O’Reilly told TennesseeTitans.com that, with the decision to put the 2029 Super Bowl in Vegas, they’ll now be looking to lock in the spot for 2030. O’Reilly didn’t confirm that Nashville would be named the Super Bowl host for 2030, but he did talk about the excitement the NFL feels for Music City’s new stadium:

“Now, we wake up tomorrow morning and think about 2030 and that process. We will move on that process pretty quickly over this next stretch, but nothing to report. Obviously, we’re excited about Nashville as a city and the (new) stadium but nothing to specifically talk about in terms of 2030.”

And Nashville won’t just have the new, shiny stadium to help push the Super Bowl to Tennessee… timing will also be in their favor. Typically, a Super Bowl won’t be hosted in a brand new venue. The NFL likes to wait around three years for a new stadium to be open before choosing it to host the “Big Game.” Super Bowl 64 would be played in February of 2030, around three years after the new Nissan Stadium is set to open.

Oh, and while NFL commissioner Roger Goodell was in Nashville late last year, he had this to say about the city and the possibility of Tennessee hosting it’s first ever Super Bowl:

“The work that they’ve done here from the moment you had the draft and what you’ve done to change the trajectory of the draft ― you actually took the draft and you made it yours, but you did it in a way that was incredibly impactful to the NFL and the Titans ― and I think all of us at that moment had the wake-up moment that this is a Super Bowl-ready city. The one thing that’s missing is the stage. I think now we’re building a great stage. We have a process, but now I have every expectation you’re going to see that type of thing in the future.”

Super Bowl-ready city, eh?

So no official confirmation that Tennessee will get a Super Bowl, but the NFL commissioner and the league’s executive vice president of events are definitely hinting that the “Big Game” could be housed at the new Nissan Stadium as soon as 2030.
