Garth Brooks recently accompanied his wife, Trisha Yearwood, to Green Bay, Wisconsin for a concert of hers.
For now, the country music superstar is taking a backseat to Yearwood. She’s on her The Mirror Tour, which is an acoustic tour currently traveling across the United States. I said “for now” a second ago because Garth has teased his very own 2026 tour… but nothing has officially been announced just yet.
When it is, it’ll be through garthbrooks.com, because that’s the only media outlet that Garth lets news out of nowadays.
One of Trisha’s recent stops was in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Back on March 14, the Meyer Theater became an intimate setting for Yearwood to share her music with her fans. And thanks to the Green Bay Press Gazette, we know that she wasn’t the only one to play within that building that day.
Meyer Theatre general manager Matt Goebel and theater operations manager Jake Gerlikovski were both set up inside the nearly 100-year-old venue for the day, as a GM and operations manager should be on a show day. And during soundcheck, they were floored when Garth Brooks quietly walked out on stage, stood in front of the empty 1,000-seat venue, and played two songs of his own.
Goebel couldn’t believe what he was seeing, and felt very grateful to be one of two people witnessing the private Garth Brooks show:
“I was like, ‘There would be a lot of people who would pay a lot of money right now to watch this.'”
Both Goebel and Gerlikovski were just as equally surprised when Brooks got out of the car with Trisha Yearwood when she first arrived to the location. They weren’t given any heads up that he’d be accompanying her, and once they saw him play on stage at the Meyer Theatre, they figured that there was a good chance Garth would be joining his wife on stage that night.
In yet another surprising turn of events… he did not.
Most, if not all, of the people that attended Yearwood’s show never really knew if Garth Brooks was there. That was probably for the best, because they likely would have expected for the country music superstar to make an appearance.
As one of the only people taking in the show that knew Garth was there, Goebel was admittedly a little disappointed that Brooks never walked out on stage:
“The place probably would’ve exploded if he did.”
But as I stated earlier, Garth Brooks is just fulfilling the role of supportive husband at the moment. He clearly wants Trisha Yearwood to have her moment. Though at the same time… it never hurts to get a little practice in, and give a couple of theater workers an experience and story they’ll never forget.
And Matt Goebel says the icing on the cake was just how nice Brooks and Yearwood were to everyone they crossed paths with while they were in Green Bay:
“Very nice guy. He introduced himself to all the stagehands and the security back there. They both were super nice.”
Garth was even nice enough to put on a show for just two people.
