WATCH: John Daly Shares Video Of Himself Accidentally Belly Flopping Down Steep, Sandy Hazard At Golf Course

John Daly

Who knew that golf was a contact sport?

John Daly is a legendary sports figure, and whether you like it or not, the pro golfer is a glistening representation of the peak male form. He first presented himself to the world as a professional athlete in the late 1980s by speaking his mind and wearing bright colored and patterned outfits.

And in the modern day, he’s still just as exciting to keep up with, even though he doesn’t play as much competitive golf as he used to.

Daly has only grown his reputation ever further by drinking beer, smoking cigs, and parking his RV near the Masters to sign autographs. If you haven’t figured it out already, Daly pretty much does anything and everything he wants to, whenever he wants to. That’s why his pre-round routine can sometimes only last one swing, and almost always involves an inordinate amount of Diet Coke.

Despite the lack of practice, the soon-to-be 60-year-old golfer was known to pull off some amazing golf shots from time to time. In his latest post on social media, Daly was trying to pull of the golf equivalent of a magic trick – hitting a recovery shot out of a penalty area. Funny enough, he did end up doing a Houdini act… falling and completely disappearing into the brush following his attempt at a miracle shot.

As you’ll see in the video below, John Daly was on a severe, sandy slope right behind what looks like a green. The golfer did the ol’ “hold my beer” and got down into the hazard area to play his next shot. He thought he had good fitting in the sand, but when he swung through (I’m still not entirely sure if the ball made it out and up onto the green or not), his back foot slipped, which sent Daly into an impromptu belly flop.

And to make matter worse, the slope was steep enough to then send the famous golfer helplessly sliding down further into the hazard. It looked like a nasty fall, but considering Daly posted the video of the incident himself, I’d say he’s doing okay (maybe minus a minor ego hit). Oh, and Daly utilized the Jacka** theme to perfection:

“Belly flopping in the desert. True buddy Joel Cooley sliding in to save me.”

That’s one of those perfect “expectation versus reality” scenarios. I’m sure Daly expected to hit a miracle shot up on the green, and maybe he would have in his younger days. In reality? He appeared to hit a lot more sand than golf ball, and may have become the first ever golfer to belly-flop and then belly-surf down a sand hill.

Social media users were both concerned and cracking jokes in the comment section below the post:

“Hope there were no cacti.”

“Talk about commitment to a shot.”

“Down goes Daly.”

“A chip and a slip.”

“Ain’t nothing a dart and a Diet Coke won’t fix.”

“Joel Cooley is a true friend.”

That’s a good shout… Cooley didn’t hesitate to go down after John Daly after he comically disappeared from the frame of the shot.
