The official trailer for The Madison is finally here.
After a long wait and a lot of speculation, The Madison is set to premiere on March 14 on Paramount+. The Taylor Sheridan show that has been teased and talked about for years finally set a premiere date earlier this year. That was met with a lot of excitement from fans, especially because the series has already shot and wrapped on two separate seasons.
The Madison is described to be some of Sheridan’s most intimate work, and will tell a story that explores grief and human connection. As far as plot is concerned, the series revolves around the titular character of Stacy Clyburn, a wealthy matriarch who upends her life in New York City to move her and her family to Montana following a plane crash that kills her husband and brother-in-law.
The show is set to star Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell as leads of the series. The timing of the addition of Russell to the cast led many to believe that he was only joining for Season 2, but it has now been confirmed that he’ll be included in both Season 1 and 2. And based upon what’s revealed in the official trailer (and everything else we’ve come to know about the show ahead of its release), Russell’s character will most likely be appearing only in flashbacks.
The Madison‘s official trailer explores a lot of themes – grief, family, tragedy, and memories – and from what I can tell, it perfectly sets up what fans can expect from the show that is NOT a Yellowstone spinoff. This standalone story, which Kurt Russell has described in interviews as “female gaze oriented,” will undoubtedly showcase the incredible talent of Academy Award nominee Michelle Pfeiffer.
She can be heard saying in the trailer that her family is “not a family designed to withstand tragedy,” and one can assume that the entirety of the series will be following the Clyburn clan as they try to do exactly that. As many people know, working through grief and loss can be incredibly challenging, and it’s often uncomfortable to talk about and rarely ever presented effectively in TV and film.
Taylor Sheridan is using The Madison to shine a light right on it.
I’d argue that Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell are the perfect leads for this series. And the rest of the cast is filled out by accomplished actors and actresses like Danielle Vasinova, Ben Schnetzer, Patrick J. Adams, Beau Garrett, Amiah Miller, Elle Chapman, and Alaina Pollack, among others. Comedic actor Will Arnett is also in the show, playing Stacy Clyburn’s New York therapist.
You can actually hear Arnett as his Phil Yorn character delivering this line in the trailer below:
“You will have as much life as you allow yourself.”
And I’ve got a feeling they included that quote in the trailer for a very good reason. When you watch the trailer, it certainly seems like that will be the guiding force of Pfeiffer’s character. As she and her family fight through the heavy layers of grief, they’ll be in search for moments that feel normal and regular… like celebrating the catchung of a fish.
Those kind of moments have healing power and provide human connection, and The Madison will show how that can be one of the best tools in the never-ending battle against grief when the series premieres on March 14 on Paramount+.
