Las Vegas Woman Becomes Public Enemy #1 After Abandoning Her Dog At JetBlue Ticket Counter

Las Vegas PD

Disgusting moments like this always baffle me because why own the animal if you are not going to care for it like family? When most folks choose to welcome a dog into their life, that dog becomes an instant part of the family, and in some cases, is loved just like a human. You bond with it, learn to love it in a way you didn’t know love was possible, and shed tears when your four-legged friend is not in good health. We’ve said it before, and we will say it again, but we truly do not deserve dogs.

Yet some people do not see dogs in this light, leading them to neglect them…and those people become public enemy #1. A Las Vegas woman is in hot water with the law after abandoning her two-year-old doodle puppy at the flight ticket counter after being told she would not be able to travel with the animal without proper paperwork.

On February 2, a woman rushed into Harry Reid International Airport around midnight. She attempted to check her bags, only to be told that the dog would not be allowed on the plane without proper service animal documentation.

Instead of trying to obtain that paperwork or rebook her flight, she tied the dog’s leash to the JetBlue ticketing counter and headed to her gate, even though she had been denied a boarding pass, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

In video footage shared by the department, you can see the dog was very sweet and lay down at the counter until police came to its rescue and went on a hunt to find the owner. When police found the woman at gate D1, they confronted her about leaving her animal, and she was not amused.

“I’m gonna throw my bags down because I’m exhausted.”

She said. The officer then told the woman that she needed to return to her animal and that she would be issued a citation for the offense.

“No, what we’re gonna do is walk you back to where your dog’s at and give you a citation, because you left your dog at the ticket counter.”

The woman insisted she was trying to rebook her flight, prompting the officers to question her further, given that she was at her gate, which implied she was trying to board the flight and leave her dog. The woman later implied that she was not in the wrong for leaving her dog behind because he had a tracking device, which would ensure he was returned to her.

I’m sorry… what?!

According to police reports, the woman became hostile as they escorted her back through the security checkpoint and resisted the officer’s attempts to detain her. The woman was arrested and booked for animal abandonment and resisting arrest.

As for the dog, he has a happy ending, finding new love after his owner neglected him. After the dog was left, Airport employees and LVMPD Officers stepped in to take care of the animal. The sweet pooch was taken into custody by Animal Protective Services. After the 10-day waiting period passed and the owner had not returned for her animal, the animal was placed in a foster home.

Appropriately renamed JetBlue by the Retriever Rescue of Las Vegas, this doodle will find a loving home that takes him on new adventures with them.

I hope this woman is charged for leaving JetBlue to fend for itself. Thank goodness he was taken into good hands and will find a home that loves him like family.
