Michelle Randolph was looking for answers in between takes on Landman.
The career of the 28-year-old actress has really taken off as of late, and much of that is thanks to Taylor Sheridan. She’s set to star in the latest entrant into the Scream franchise – Scream 7 – which releases later this month. But before that, she was featured in the Yellowstone spinoff 1923, and most notably, she’s been a part of the star-studded cast of Landman.
Randolph, who plays Ainsley in the oil drama, shares a lot of scenes with Ali Larter and Billy Bob Thornton. They star as her parents, Angela and Tommy, and anytime the young actress and Thornton share a scene, you know it’s going to be good. That specific on-screen pairing has actually led to a couple of viral moments over the show’s first two seasons.
During a recent interview on The Drew Barrymore Show, Randolph revealed that some exciting conversations between her and Thornton continue to take place even after the cameras cut. She told Barrymore that anytime she shares a scene with the Sling Blade actor, she can’t help but think about the Hollywood rumor about Thornton that had everyone in a chokehold in the early 2000s:
“Most of my scenes are with him, and I’m thinking, ‘God, like what, all I know is that he drank Angelina Jolie’s blood or something. Which I since have asked him about.”
In case you haven’t ever heard about that… it was indeed a very popular rumor.
Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thornton were quite the interesting couple back in the day. They were married in 2000, split up in 2003, and appeared to be hot and heavy in between. Those three years together led to a plethora of tabloid pieces, and yes, one rumor that Thornton and Jolie drank one another’s blood.
Drew Barrymore let us all down by not asking for the specific answer that Thornton provided when Randolph inquired about the blood drinking. Instead, the show host just asked how he reacted to that question from the young actress. Here’s what the actress behind Ainsley had to say:
“He just, I mean, he’s just (at) ease. If ease was a person, that’s who he is. That’s why he’s so good at what he does. You think someone with his résumé is going to be so intimidating, but instead, he’s such a great actor because he pulls honesty out of you and he settles you in a scene and in life. I tend to talk a lot and move fast and he just makes me want to just chill.”
In other words, the question didn’t seem to rattle Thornton.
And that makes sense, because it was actually back in November of last year where Thornton himself was asked about the rumor during a Rolling Stone interview. He cleared the air about it all, and said that the lockets that he and Jolie wore with each other’s blood in it was just a “romantic idea” that the public then ran wild with:
“We each had a little locket, literally with a drop of blood in them. That’s a romantic little idea, and that’s all that was. But by the time it’s over, we’re vampires. We live in a dungeon, we drink each other’s blood, and this kind of stuff.
And of course, Angelina and I had a great time together. That was one of the greatest times of my life. She and I are still very, very close friends. And that was the one that ended up being a really civilized breakup. We simply split up because our lifestyles were so different.”
Lifestyles were different, yet they were on the same page about the blood vials around each other’s necks.
It’s actually funny to think that the rumor, which is now over two decades old, still has some life. Even Michelle Randolph, who would have been five or six years old when Thornton and Jolie were together, knew enough about it to ask her co-star. If only the cameras had been rolling when Randolph popped the “blood drinking” question to Billy Bob…
