“Where The Beautiful Moments Happen”: Wyatt Flores Reveals The Surprising Reason He Likes Playing Small Stages

Wyatt Flores

As a musician, being on stage and connecting with your fans is a feeling unlike any other. No matter how big or small the crowd is, there will always be something magical about that face-to-face interaction. And from the fans’ perspective, there are certain shows where you can feel that something about the energy of the room is different.

But have you ever wondered if an artist can feel that same cosmic energy the same way a crowd of fans does?

According to Wyatt Flores, the artists can feel the same sensation as fans from the crowd, leading to some nights that leave a more lasting impression on them than others. Not to say that every night they take the stage is a blessing, but Flores shared with Dale Brisby on the Rodeo Time Podcast that it’s always amazing to him that his lyrics connect with his fans in the way they do. Brisby agreed that it’s always amazing to see a crowd of fans connecting with the lyrics and the shared experiences they evoke.

Flores shared that it always blows his mind to feel his fans’ energy on stage.

“It is crazy, and you can feel that energy. Like those nights, you know, we have shows that are just, you know, you’re kind of clocking in. ‘Cause we’ve had so many great experiences, not every night is going to feel the same.

But those nights when you can tell it really does feel like this spirit. I don’t even know. I don’t want to sound hippie-like over here, but like, truthfully, you can feel it in the room. And those nights, I live for those. I live for the ones where it feels like the entire room is in sync with each other, and those are special moments that we get.”

Brisby then asked if there is a crowd size that he can connect with more than others, which is a fair question. Flores has played small venues to stadiums.

“Actually, it’s easier with smaller crowds.”

The “Oh Susannah” singer relied. Dale Brisby then asks Flores if he’s had any recent shows with smaller crowds that gave him that special feeling. Flores recalled two shows in which he felt the magic in the air.

“Honestly, we had one in Calgary about a month ago, and that was one of the best shows that we got to play. And then a time before that was, um, somewhere in Utah. I can’t even remember the name of the place—small little amphitheater. Crazy night.

I don’t know how to say it. It feels like not only just me and the band but everyone in the audience just kind of locked in. And those are like where the beautiful moments happen, and it feels like you’re floating at that point. It’s crazy. I probably just sound like a weirdo… There’s nights where everything just feels elevated, and those are the nights where you can’t fall asleep afterwards.”

There is nothing like the adrenaline you feel as a fan knowing that a set you just witnessed was more special than all the others, and I really find it interesting that an artist can feel the same way. Check out the whole conversation while you’re here. It gets started around the 47-minute mark.
