When you’re a legend, you can do whatever you want on tour.
And for Shania Twain, that means bringing her horses on the road… yes, she really does. Firstly, I can only imagine how expensive that is and how much work it takes, but I know those probably aren’t huge concerns of hers, but still… I have never heard of an artist doing something like this, and if you can, why not, right… she’s earned it. I mean, I’ve heard of artists taking mobile gyms, maybe their own car to drive around in each city, but their horses… that’s next level.
The country superstar is recently opened for Harry Styles on his massive Together, Together stadium residency at Wembley Stadium in London, and during that time, she sat down for an interview with Seth Doane for CBS Sunday Morning, where she talked about her forthcoming album Little Miss Twain.
And she also explained how her horses are a “great escape,” and so she enjoys having them with her whenever she can:
“I ride in my pajamas in the mornings, just barefoot. It’s just a great escape.”
When she asked what an ordeal it is to bring her horses on the road, Shania admitted it “takes some planning,” but it’s worth it when she can do a leisurely stroll through Hyde Park in London:
“It takes some planning… or when in London, ride in Hyde Park.”
It’s such a rock star move, which Shania certainly is, and that’s just the kind of stuff you can do when you get to her level.
Shania also talked about how she didn’t get over her stage freight until she was in her 50s, because she used to play in bars as a minor, and she was only allowed on stage after last call
“‘Little Miss Twain’ is me now, looking back at my child self and the journey that child went through from starting out in those bars at 8-years-old, right up until I got my recording contract in Nashville. You know, I didn’t get a contract until I was in my late 20s.
My first top ten record, I was 30 already, so there’s all of these years that were me making a living singing in bars as a cover singer, collecting all of the songwriting that would ended up becoming the Shania Twain records.”
Shania also talked about how thankful she is for her life now, as she had a pretty rough upbringing as she explained having to take care of her mom from a young age, and going without food and proper clothing at times:
“When I was younger, I was so over responsible for the household. My mother was depressed a lot of the time, she spent a lot of her days in bed. She lived off coffee and cigarettes that I would bring her in bed, just to see if she was still alive.
There was a lo to violence in the house, and we didn’t eat well a lot of the times, we weren’t clothed properly a lot of the times. When I reflect back on those times, I’m reflecting on them from where I am now, which is a very good place. Like, I made it out of there.
So it’s like, woah, I’m just celebrating all of that. and what makes me feel so accomplished is staying connected to where I came from. It’s the contrast.”
It’s incredible how her life turned out considering where she came from an her very humble beginnings, but she’s just beyond talented and like I said, she’s earned the right to take her horses wherever the heck she wants.
