Karaoke move aside, it’s time for a cartwheel contest.
There is nothing better than a dive bar. You never know what characters you will meet, the friendships you will form over a cold beer, or the antics that the regulars get up to. Over the years, we’ve seen some great viral moments at local watering holes.
From regulars helping bartenders with the closing shift chores to famous faces showing up for a karaoke night, you honestly never know what to expect from a dive bar.
Recently, a Decatur, Illinois dive bar has been going viral for the antics its regulars got into. Curly’s Sports Bar looks like your run-of-the-mill dive bar, serving strong drinks and lots of TVs to watch sports. According to Curly’s Facebook page, “Curly’s is everybody’s home away from home. We invite you to stop by and have a drink, hang out with your friends. We have darts, slot machines, patio and awesome bartenders eager to serve you!”
Sounds like a good time, right?
Well, the crowd one night decided to have some fun and, instead of firing up a karaoke or game night, bar patrons hosted a cartwheel contest. Yes, folk, cartwheels. Like the sideways gymnastics maneuver that we all loved doing as kids. There have been some trends online over the last year of adults trying to do maneuvers kids loved as adults, like skipping, and many folks epically failed.
And Curly’s Sports Bar’s cartwheel contest featured overly confident (and probably slightly overserved) contestants who led to hilarious cartwheel demonstrations. The bar goers all had perfect form to start, but as they all went to throw their legs over their bodies, that’s where it all went wrong. Many participants landed on their heads, and one patron landed on his head, which looked rather painful.
While this contest is peak small-town dive-bar, it raises this question: if no cartwheel was successfully executed, did anyone win?
