Traffic Halted By Insanely Long Line Of Elk Sprinting Across The Road In Montana

Elk herd

Wonder where this never-ending herd of elk is off to? And if they even care that they are holding up traffic?

We’ve all been stuck in traffic, so I don’t even have to tell you that it can be a frustrating experience. Sometimes, we have to see the sea of cars in front of us and try our darnedest to keep the road rage at bay. And I’ve also got to point out that stand-still traffic jams often come at the worst possible time. I only run into traffic when I’m in a hurry, and never when I’ve got all the time in the world.

But let me ask you this… does an elk-induced-traffic-jam make the wait any better?

I’d argue that a beautiful, wildlife scene that’s playing out being the cause of traffic beats your typical gridlock any day of the week. None of us have ever stopped to admire the hundreds of cars in front of us, but I’d bet that all of us would happily put the car in park to watch hundreds of elk stampede across the road.

Animal-induced traffic is more common than you think. If you don’t believe me, you are welcome to check into this traffic jam that was caused by bison, or feel free to watch this video of a reindeer herd completely taking over a snow-covered road in Norway. When you live out in the nature, you’re obviously more likely to cross paths with it. Or in this case, have your path stopped.

These drivers in Montana – between Townsend and Three Forks – probably got wherever they were going a couple of minutes late. But what they gained with that time lost was witnessing hundreds of elk traversing their way across the scenic Montana landscape at full-sprint speed. And it was a steady stream of elk stretching as far as they eye could see:

Absolutely gorgeous. I’d take that as a roadblock any day of the week.

When I see videos like this, I tend to jump into the comments section to see what other social media users have to say about it. There were plenty of people that were in awe of nature’s beauty, and couldn’t believe what a gift it was for this to be captured on camera for the rest of us to enjoy.

Then there was Judy, who inexplicably politicized the footage of the elk:

“Such a amazing sight for you to witness. I apologize for injecting something political here but I can’t help it. Reminded me of the MAGA branch of the Republican Party blindly following their fearless leader and they have no idea where they’re going. Sorry… not sorry.”

What the hell Judy? Way to kill the vibe. No part of that video should stir up something political.

Thankfully, a guy named Dave chimed in below the video and put on a masterclass of how to comment on an outdoors video (basically the opposite of what Judy did). Ol’ Dave saw the clip and it brought him back to a simpler time in the 1990s when he witnessed something very similar:

“An amazing sight when you see it. Watched about 4,000 do this up north of Craig Colorado back in 1996 go across Highway 13 off of big Cottonwood creek. Did not have iPhones back then, just a memory now. Awesome if you ever get a chance to see something like this!”

Now THAT is how you leave a comment on a video.

Thank you Dave for your contribution. Judy, if you are reading this, be more like Dave.
