They say rain is good luck on your wedding day… but what do they say about having a boat sink directly next to your venue? Seems like a bad omen…
There’s only so much that’s in your control when it comes to planning a wedding. Who gets the invite, where the big day is held, what food is served, and what DJ to go with is about all that a couple can really lay out. Everything else that happens on the wedding day is kind of up to the cosmos, and I’ve heard plenty of times that no wedding is ever perfect.
When you opt to have it outdoors, and plan it for months out in advance, you are certainly leaving things up to chance for a weather-related mishap. This couple who got married in San Diego, California chose a beautiful spot with an ocean view, and being on the west coast, there was a low chance of any rain swooping in and ruining their big day.
However… they didn’t think of the sea itself causing any issues.
While they were reading their vows to one another, one of the wedding photographers/videographers captured footage of a boat sinking just off to the side of their wedding. There’s also a massive cruise ship that goes right behind them in the middle of the ceremony, but that’s not even the most distracting nautical-related thing going on.
As the couple’s love for another soared to new heights, the boat that was in the bay was taking on water and sinking to new lows. I can guarantee that a shipwreck was never something that the pair tying the knot was concerned about. Just goes to show you that you can never really predict how a wedding day will do.
ABC7 News shared the video of the unfortunate incident, and says that those that were on the vessel when it went down were rescued:
“A boat was seen sinking in San Diego as a couple tied the knot during an outdoor wedding on Saturday, November 1. Footage of the moment was captured by Willmus Weddings, who said the boat sank due to an engine leak and that the occupants were rescued.”
You never want that sinking feeling to come up on your wedding.
That’s gotta be one of the most ill-timed things to ever happen at an outdoor wedding, right? The only thing that I could imagine being worse was the time a grizzly bear mauled a moose during an outdoor wedding at Glacier National Park. Moose mauling or ship sinking… what’s worse? They are both undoubtedly bad, and many on social media were saying that a ship sinking within eyesight of your wedding probably isn’t the best omen:
“I don’t really believe in signs, but…”
“Super romantic with the giant cruise ship coming in.”
“A Titanic kind love story, y’all good. Congrats on the marriage.”
“THE GALES OF NOVEMBER CAME EARLY.”
“May that be all of their stressors and troubles sinking away.”
Yeah, that last comment is about as good as you can spin that situation.
