It’s the SPORTS EQUINOX BABY!

If you are like me, you wait all summer long for football and basketball to come back. Then once they do, life starts moving way too fast. That’s the problem with having things to look forward to… everything seems to speed up. Heck, we’re already through eight weeks of the NFL season, and the NBA got started back up last week.

We basically go from having no sports to watch to almost having too much sports to watch.

Don’t get me wrong, I love having sports on seemingly around-the-clock and every day of the week. It’s great if you are a sports fan, but it’s bad if you are trying to maintain relationships and friendships, and if you are bad at sports gambling (who isn’t?).

All of that aside, fall is a wonderful time of the year. Leaves are changing, Halloween spills right into Thanksgiving, and then once you carve the turkey, Christmas and New Years are right around the corner. Oh, and before you get to that time of the year, pumpkin spice is everywhere you look. Some people dislike pumpkin spice… I’m not one of those people.

Bring on the PSLs (Pumpkin Spice Lattes) just like this time of the year brings on the NFL, NBA, and NHL.

And speaking of all of those leagues, this portion of the calendar brings out all of the major sports all at the same time. Every now and then, all of the different leagues align to create a day known as the “Sports Equinox.” If you’ve never heard of the special day (or celebrated it), it is a moment in sports where the NBA, MLB, NFL, and NHL (and MLS) all play games on the same day, with many of the contests overlapping at the same time.

For the NFL, you’ve got Monday Night Football (Kansas City Chiefs vs. Washington Commanders), for the MLB, you’ve got game three of the World Series (Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Toronto Blue Jays), and then you have eleven different NBA games and two separate NHL matchups… with a couple of MLS playoff games sprinkled in too.

It’s the 32nd time in history that the Sports Equinox has occurred:

Who doesn’t love the Sports Equinox?

You might have answered, “I didn’t love it only because I didn’t know about it.” I’ll give you a pass on that one, but like I – and the above post – pointed out… it’s kind of already happened 31 times in the history of sports (the first time it ever happened was on Oct. 17, 1971). That’s frankly on YOU for a) not being aware and b) not being excited. This is the type of day you should have circled on your calendar.

The first of all the games starts at 7 p.m. EST, but once they get going, those diehard sports fans (like myself) will definitely have to get multiple TVs going. If you’re living room doesn’t look like a sports bar tonight, you are doing it all wrong my friend. Break out every television and screen in your household… this is the way.

Make sure to enjoy your Sports Equinox today, and win every single bet that you place. If anyone asks, you are honoring a national holiday and a historical moment tonight by sitting on your butt and watching all the sports that your eyes can handle at once.

I’d say this meme perfectly encapsulates how sports fans (and degenerate gamblers) are feeling today:
