Jason Kelce ironically took to social media to clear the air on the misinformation that was being spread on social media.
It all had to do with quotes that were being misattributed to the former Philadelphia Eagles center and current host of the highly successful New Heights podcast. A multitude of accounts online were spreading this quote about Bad Bunny being named the Super Bowl Halftime Show performer below and saying that Jason Kelce put it out there.
Here’s an example of what some online saw:
“If Bad Bunny is a bad fit for the Super Bowl, then maybe the people making these comments are a bad fit for America’s future.”
All it takes in the modern age for people to believe what they read online is a quote and some pictures attached, eh?
To be very clear, Jason Kelce has never addressed the Super Bowl Halftime Show performer. There are no credible outlets that actually and factually attribute that quote to Kelce. And to prove that even more, the former footballer came out himself and put this statement out on his personal X account:
“I normally don’t comment on things like this, but I feel I need to address that there are a number of accounts posting fake quotes and attributing them to me on this platform right now.
I appreciate X putting community notes on several and I will not address the other accounts specifically, because I do not want to amplify their engagement. But please know, unless you hear something directly from me via one of my platforms, it is not real.”
So there you have it… Jason Kelce didn’t ever make a controversial statement about Bad Bunny.
That being said, the selection of Bad Bunny, a global superstar and Puerto Rican rapper whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, has been surrounded with its fair share of controversy. Bad Bunny has been in the news a lot since the NFL tapped him to headline the Super Bowl LX halftime show on February 8.
There were a lot of rumors as to who would grace the Super Bowl Halftime stage, with many assuming that Taylor Swift would be chosen since she’s been so intertwined with the NFL in the past couple of years. But the NFL decided to go with the artist that boasts 77.4 million monthly listeners on Spotify to lead the “Big Game’s” halftime show.
That has resulted in some pushback from fans who believe a different artist would have been a better option. Country music fans have started a petition to have George Strait replace the Puerto Rican rapper as the halftime performer. Chances are that won’t go anywhere, but it still shows that some parts of the country aren’t happy with Bad Bunny taking the state.
Then you’ve also got Turning Point USA’s alternative halftime show that they are putting together, which is rumored to include a number of “patriotic artists,” but none have been confirmed thus far. In fact, there was a ton of fake news surrounding that as well.
All in all, if the NFL wanted to create some buzz around their Super Bowl performer, they’ve certainly accomplished that. It seems like everyone is talking about Bad Bunny… well, everyone except Jason Kelce.
