Change of plans…
It’s a pretty rare occurrence to be targeting one animal, call it in, and then have another ruin the party that quickly. But these predators hear everything that’s going on around them too. And when you’re a pack animal like a wolf, hearing an elk bugle might as well just be a dinner bell if the troops are ready for action.
A wolf can eat 10-pounds of meat in a day and when you have a whole pack working together, that adds up fast. A nice bull elk makes for a great meal for a wolf pack.
These hunters were out for an elk hunt in British Columbia (or at least I believe so) when they called in a couple of bulls. The elk appeared to be in range so I’m not exactly sure why a shot wasn’t taken, I’m sure the hunters regretted it after what happened next. All of the sudden the elk made for higher ground, and the hunters were kind of confused about what they did wrong… until the wolves started coming out.
A whole pack comes out and stares down directly at the hunters. The hunters weren’t fooling them at all…
When the realize what’s going on the hunter hits the ground and gets ready to switch gears since his elk hunt was ruined. The wolves aren’t stupid though. They come in a little closer to investigate, and then most of them quickly run off the road and the opportunity closes. The hunter starts to move up the road hoping to come across one of them, and one walks back out and makes the mistake of stopping to have a look.
The hunter fires off a shot (a bit high) but it’s enough to do some damage and the wolf drops in its tracks. It’s unclear if the wolves were moving in to surround the hunters, or if they were just on the elk’s trail as well, and surprised to see them there. A number of comments took exception to the killing of the wolf, however, many agreed that appeared to be getting into position to flank the hunters.
But perhaps the most hilarious part of the entire video, the hunter starts calling elk again immediately after taking the shot. I think they’re long gone bud…
Massive Wolf Wanders Through The Night At Yellowstone National Park
Hate to have that thing come after you…
Yellowstone National Park might just be the most incredible place in the entire United States. No matter what time of day you go, what time of year… you’re always bound to see something incredible. Whether it’s bear, elk, wolves, or bison, you’re getting a front row seat to the best that American wildlife has to offer.
Siddharth Gandhi was able to catch an incredible moment on video (in 2017) when a massive grey wolf wandered onto a two lane road in Lamar Valley at Yellowstone National Park. His video racked up over 11M views to date.
This thing is a BEAST… I mean, it looks like a dire wolf straight out of Game of Thrones. Equally as majestic as it is terrifying.
Check it out up close… nature is a beautiful thing.
