The Chief did not disappoint in Title Town.
Fresh off the announcement of two dozen new tour dates in 2026, Eric Church has been on a roll with the Free The Machine Tour. After kicking the tour off in Pittsburgh, which featured a powerful rendition of “Monsters” in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s murder, the “Record Year” singer has hit the likes of Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Boston and Columbus over the past few weeks.
Last night, he took the tour to none other than Green Bay, Wisconsin at the Resch Center. With a population of only 106,000, the city is undoubtedly one of the smallest places Church will play throughout the tour. As we all know, however, Green Bay has one major pull for many across the country: the Packers.
With 13 NFL championships (including 4 Super Bowls), 29 NFL Hall of Famers, 10 Most Valuable Players (including Aaron Rodgers’ four wins) and a storied history that includes being the only NFL team that is publically owned and having the Super Bowl trophy named after their legendary coach, Vince Lombardi, the Packers are among the most iconic sports franchises in history.
With the team primed for another playoff run this year with the addition of former Dallas Cowboys edge rusher, Micah Parsons, the Packers are looking like a serious threat to the Philadelphia Eagles coming out of the NFC (we’re just going to ignore the embarrassing loss to the Browns last week, okay?). And in typical Eric Church fashion, he gave a major nod to the hometown team last night in a big way.
After performing the entirety of his new album, Evangeline Vs. the Machine to begin the show, Church followed it up with past hits such as “Hell of a View,” “Give Me Back My Hometown,” “Smoke a Little Smoke” and “Desperate Man.” Instead of saving “Springsteen” for the closer or part of the encore, the North Carolina native decided to play the 8x platinum smash hit to start the back half of the show, this time with a twist.
As it is with any performance of “Springsteen,” the Green Bay crowd was already amped up. However, he increased the intensity tenfold after grabbing a Packers-themed American flag and putting it around his neck, which has become a pretty classic move for Church. Of course, the crowd absolutely loved it.
With that being said, he wasn’t done servicing the Green Bay fans in the crowd with the flag. As we all know, during the closing parts of “Springsteen,” Church drags out the series of “woah, woah, woahs” present in the song. For most concerts, this is usually a time to led the crowd join in and belt the vocals as loud as possible. This time, however, Church decided to change the lyrics to match the Packers’ iconic “Go Pack Go” cheer, which has become synonymous with the franchise, before wrapping up the rendition with the final chorus.
Now, Church may be from Carolina, but he has a good reason to cheer on the Pack: A few years ago, a couple of loyal fans made Chief part owner of the Packers himself.
As a huge fan and owner of the Packers myself (if you couldn’t tell already), words cannot describe how jealous I am of every fan in attendance. It’s not every day you get to see your favorite artist represent and shout out your favorite football team, but for myself and many other Green Bay fans, they got just that last night.
If you’re a fan of both Church and the Packers, this is nothing short of a must-watch.
