Reenacting the famed moment.
18 years ago, Mike Gundy made history screaming at reporters after a game, decked out in America’s brightest orange in an Oklahoma State visor:
For those not familiar with this infamous moment, let’s take a walk down memory lane to 2007, when this historic college football game occurred. It all went down after the Cowboys defeated the Texas Tech Red Raiders in a 48-45 thriller. Gundy decided to bench the original starting quarterback, Bobby Reid, after losing to Troy the week before.
Newspapers and media in general were calling out Reid for his foul play, and needless to say, Gundy wasn’t having any of it. He absolutely tore into the media after the win, calling them out for down-talking Reid as if he had done something wrong. He also reminded them that he was just a college kid, not an NFL superstar.
“COME AFTER ME! I’M A MAN, I’M 40! I’M NOT A KID!”
Needless to say, it’ll go down as one of the all-time greatest rants in college football history, and it’s simply one that will never get old. The moment is, in fact, so timeless that recently a cell phone company enlisted Gundy to reenact the famed moment for a commercial, “Mike Gundy Vs. Big Wireless” for Consumer Cellular.
In the commercial, Gundy is once again decked out in America’s brightest orange, complete with a visor that looks similar to the original moment.
“Yeah, I’m going to make some cuts. Big wireless wants to come after me? I’m a man! I’m not 40, I’m 58! Why would I overpay when I can get Consumer Cellular’s unlimited plan, two lines $30 bucks each? Fast, reliable coverage, two lines $30 bucks each!
That’s all I gotta say! Big wireless makes me want to puke!”
HA. This is the best use of a famed press conference moment.
18 years later, and this is still hilarious. And I have to give it to Consumer Wireless; having Gundy add the line to update his age, which reflects how long ago this moment took place, was a very nice touch.

I think the commercial makes this clear, but in case you were wondering, Gundy is still the head coach for Oklahoma State today.
He played quarterback for the Cowboys from 1986 to 1989, playing alongside Barry Sanders. He joined the university’s coaching staff in 1990 and was named offensive coordinator in 2001. He was then hired as the head coach in 2004 and has remained in that position ever since.
