Taylor Swift’s Recalls Going Onto The Field After The 2024 AFC Championship: “It’s One Of My Most Cherished Memories”

You’ll never forget the first time on the field.

Fans are swooning over the latest New Heights podcast episode, where Taylor Swift appears as a guest. The podcast, hosted by her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, and his older brother, Jason, has garnered considerable media attention over the past few days, culminating in the release of last night’s episode.

During the episode, she revealed that her new album, Life of a Showgirl, will be released on October 3rd, but they also discussed their relationship, which, let’s be honest, is what viewers wanted to learn about the most.

The pair started dating in the summer of 2023, after Travis attended her Eras Tour concert at Arrowhead Stadium in July. The story goes that he had hoped to meet her backstage and give her a friendship bracelet with his phone number, but he couldn’t manage to pull it off. He then discussed it on the aforementioned podcast with Jason, and they eventually made contact, and the rest, as they say, is history.

On the podcast, Swift hilariously says that Travis never even got in touch with her team to meet; he just went to the concert and expected the venue staff to let him into her green room, since he’s a Chiefs player. I’ve to say I respect that confidence.

Since the pair began dating, Taylor has been a major focal point at Kansas City Chiefs games, watching her star tight end boyfriend most Sundays, in addition to making appearances at some of their away games. The broadcast loves to highlight Taylor Swift on TV at the games she attends, which rubs many football fans the wrong way, but given her appearance is skyrocketing NFL views, they are going to milk having her in the room. She even joked around on the podcast about folks not loving her cameos on the jumbotrons or TVs at home.

Ironically, despite the amount of hate Taylor Swift receives for her time shown during NFL broadcasts, one of her favorite moments with Travis comes from a post-game media frenzy. Near the end of the podcast episode, Jason rapid-fires some questions to Swift, and Swift shares that she was overwhelmed by the media frenzy that occurred after the Chiefs’ AFC Championship win in 2024. After the game was over and the Chiefs had secured their spot in the Super Bowl, Swift shared that she was shocked when Travis’ family suggested going down to the field to celebrate.

“The first time I stepped on the field, which would have been when you won the AFC Championship, the first season that I was with you, and it was in Baltimore, and we’re in the suite and you just won the AFC Championship, we’re freaking out and everybody’s screaming, and (Travis’) mom goes, ‘Alright, let’s go down to the field.’

I was like, ‘What, we’re doing, what do you mean? We’re going where?’ And she’s like, ‘We’re going down to the field,’ and I was like, ‘Did he say that that’s OK?’ Cause we hadn’t talked about this.”

Given that Swift was still in her rookie year of being a WAG, she did not want to do anything that would startle Travis. She was more worried that, since they hadn’t talked about her going to the field if they won (because he’s superstitious and wouldn’t speak it out loud), he would want to meet her somewhere off the field after the win.

“She was like, ‘Trust me, he wants you there,’ and I was like, ‘OK, she would know,’ and so, I’m walking out onto this field and it’s like, ‘Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god.” There are so many lights, and I’ve never seen this many cameras. I’ve never seen this much media in my life, and I’ve seen a lot of media. And then the media sees me and they’re like ‘AH!’ And then they just start running at me, and I’m looking at you, and then you’re screaming into the mic, cause when there’s a mic and there’s Travis, he physically needs to scream into it.

So basically, I’m experiencing this whole heightened scenario that I had no idea five minutes before I was going to be experiencing, and it’s one of my most cherished memories because I was so proud of you.

It was so magical, it was so fun, it’s crazy to get to see someone you love work that hard and have that kind of euphoric payoff where you did it, underlined a hundred times …. I had such a great rookie year.”

Of course, we got some iconic photos from the moment on the field, and that was just the start of the iconic images we got of the two.

It’s remarkable how such a public moment can become a cherished memory for a fairly private woman, despite her level of fame. And for her to say she’d never seen media like that is a statement I never thought I’d hear come out of Taylor Swift’s mouth.

Love makes you do crazy things, eh?
