On Their First Date, Taylor Swift Asked Travis Kelce What It Was Like To Line Up Against His Brother In The Super Bowl: “I Now Know What An Insane Question That Was”

I mean, she had a lot to learn, I’ll put it that way…

Of course, if you have even so much as opened a social media app for longer than two seconds over the last several days, then you’ve probably heard that Taylor Swift appeared on Travis Kelce’s New Heights podcast, which he hosts with his brother and former NFL player Jason Kelce.

The pair started dating in the summer of 2023, after Travis attended her Eras Tour concert at Arrowhead Stadium in July. The story goes that he had hoped to meet her backstage and give her a friendship bracelet with his phone number, but he couldn’t manage to pull it off. He then discussed it on the aforementioned podcast with Jason, and they eventually made contact and the rest, as they say, is history.

Taylor has been a major focal point at Kansas City Chiefs games, watching her star tight end boyfriend most Sunday’s, in addition to making appearances at some of their away games. She’s shown on the broadcast numerous times throughout the games, and it honestly became a point of contention because so many fans got tired of seeing her… which she made a joke about while on the podcast:

During the episode, she revealed her new album Life of a Showgirl will be released on October 3rd, but they also talked some about their relationship, and Taylor revealed the hilarious question she asked Travis on their first date.

Of course, Jason and Travis Kelce played against each other in Super Bowl LVII in 2023, marking the first time in Super Bowl history that two brothers competed on opposing teams. The Chiefs, led by Travis beat the Philadelphia Eagles with a score of 38-35, and Jason retired in March of 2024 from his longtime position as the Eagles center. So Taylor wanted to know what it was like for Travis to line up across from his brother during that game…

The only problem is, they never did. They both play on offense, which means they were never actually on the field at the same time. Taylor said she’s learned a ton about football sine then, and in hindsight, she can see how “insane” that question was:

“On our first date, I legitimately asked him what it was like when the Chiefs played the Eagles in the Super Bowl and he looked across the field across the line of scrimmage and saw his brother standing on the other… five feet in front of him on the field. [Travis] didn’t even look at me.

Like, I now know what an insane question that was. He was like, ‘Actually, I’m on the offense and my brother’s on the offense, and I’m only on the field at the same time as the defense.’ I thought everyone was on the field at the same time.”

But dating one of the premier NFL players for the last year or so, she’s learned a lot, and Taylor says she got excited watching the Chiefs draft Xavier Worthy in 2024:

“I became a person who was running through the halls of my house screaming, ‘We drafted Xavier Worthy!’ My friends are like, ‘Who bodysnatched you? What do you mean?’”

Travis said that he was “thankful” she has gotten so into football:

“I am forever thankful for you diving into the football world wholeheartedly.”

A lot of girls don’t know much about football, similar to Swift before Kelce, and honestly don’t care to… and while I’m not a Swiftie by any means, I can appreciate that her being a fan of the sport might make other girls and women more interested in it too.

If that’s what it takes, cool, I guess, because it really is the greatest sport ever and everyone should be able to experience that… even Taylor Swift is the first music you listen to when you open up Spotify.
