Not really a podcast guy, eh?
Obviously Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are one of the most talked-about couples in pop culture these days. The pop superstar and the Kansas City Chiefs tight end went public with their relationship back in 2023, and since then all eyes have been on both of them no matter where they are or what they’re doing.
So naturally when it was announced earlier this week that Taylor would be appearing on the New Heights podcast, which Travis Kelce co-hosts with his brother, retired Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce, it set the internet on fire. And Taylor even used the appearance to announce her upcoming album, The Life Of A Showgirl, which will be dropping later this year.
The full episode doesn’t drop until tonight at 7 PM eastern, but it’s safe to say that it’s one of the most highly-anticipated podcast episodes since Donald Trump appeared on the Joe Rogan podcast last year. Swifties are already talking about trying to break the world record for views on a podcast (which, if you’re interested, is currently held by Fnjan Podcast, a Saudi relationship podcast whose 2022 episode on “How To Succeed In Relationships” has racked up 144 million views on YouTube alone so far).
But will Kelce’s coach be helping to break the record?
After practice today, Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid was asked whether he planned on tuning in tonight when the podcast dropped, and it doesn’t sound like he’s big on podcasts:
“I’m like, really old, Nate. My grandkids will be all over it.”
But just because he won’t be listening doesn’t mean he isn’t supportive of their relationship:
“I’m happy for them. Both of them like each other, and what a plus that is. They care about each other. And I think that’s the most important thing. The older you get, you want these guys to have somebody they can settle down with and that whole deal, so I think it’s a neat deal for them. Both of them.”
While Reid apparently won’t be tuning in, it sounds like Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has it on his calendar:
“I knew before y’all did, just because they called me after the podcast was done – they didn’t call me, they called Brittany, and I was in the back of the FaceTime.
I’m obviously super excited, just knowing Taylor and seeing the process from just a little bit closer of how she makes the albums, it’s going to be amazing because of how much work she puts into it, and what better place to announce it than the New Heights podcast where I feel like she can be herself and showcase who she is.
I think people are going to be really excited to watch it tonight. I haven’t seen it yet. I’ve seen a little bit of the clips just like everybody else, but I’ll be tuning in tonight at, I think it’s 7 eastern, so I’ll be able to have something to watch here on this night off that I have.”
@thekansascitystar Training camp ended Wednesday and the Chiefs could head back to Kansas City and a night off ahead of Friday’s preseason game against Seattle. Some plan to spend that time watching the New Heights podcast, which is co-hosted by tight end Travis Kelce and his brother, Jason. The latest episode comes out at 6 p.m. Wednesday and includes special guest Taylor Swift, the superstar singer who is dating Travis Kelce. Swift will talk about her forthcoming album, “The Life of a Showgirl.” Patrick Mahomes said he got a slight heads-up about the new podcast episode. “It surprised me, too,” Mahomes said. “I knew before y’all did this, because they called me after the podcast was done.” 🎥: Emily Curiel/The Star Alexa Stone/ The Star (@Lex Stone│Sports & Culture) #Taylorswift #PatrickMahomes #AndyReid #NewHeightspodcast #Kansascitychiefs
Of course Taylor knows that not everybody will be excited to see her on the podcast. During a new teaser that was dropped this morning, the pop star joked about the “male sports fans” who are sick of seeing her on their screens:
“As we all know, you guys have a lot of male sports fans that listen to your podcast. And I think we all know that if there’s one thing that male sports fans want to see in their spaces and on their screens, it’s more of me.”
For Patrick Mahomes and the Swifties though, it’s going to be appointment viewing.
