Coldplay frontman Chris Martin getting in on the joke.
Everyone has been focusing on Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and his alleged mistress Kristin Cabot while this crazy, jumbotron story has gone viral. But has anyone checked in on Chris Martin? Though that might seem like a silly question, there has to be some guilt in accidentally exposing a cheating couple at your concert.
By now, there’s no doubt that you’ve heard the story of the tech CEO that was allegedly caught red-handed cheating on his spouse at a Coldplay concert with his company’s human resources chief Kristin Cabot. The story – albeit a very personal one at the root of things – has captured the intention of the social media world. And just when you think you’ve heard everything there is to hear about it, another detail reveals itself.
The first domino to fall in creating the viral news was the footage showing the jumbotron camera operator honing in on Byron and his work subordinate cuddled up at the concert. They quickly separated and tried to hide their faces, but it was too little, too late. The internet is forever, and one person just so happened to be recording the jumbotron when it all went down and posted it onto social media.
Coldplay frontman Chris Martin narrated what was unfolding in real time, and seemingly figured out what was happening in a matter of seconds:
“Oh look at these two. Oh come on, you’re okay. What? Either they’re having an affair, or they’re just very shy.”
Sheesh.
There’s even another angle that’s come out which shows Chris Martin a bit dumbfounded, even saying “I hope we didn’t do something bad.” Unfortunately, all signs are pointing towards things being bad, but it might have been a good thing in the long run that the Coldplay frontman helped bring the tech CEO’s affair into the light.
That being said, it doesn’t appear that the 48-year-old singer wants to ever uncover a secret like that ever again. The viral moment played out on the first night of two-concert-run at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. On the second night, when it came time for the jumbotron portion of the show again, Chris Martin was asking people that were on the big screen if they were actually together:
“Okay now listen. Are you two a couple? Are you two a legitimate couple?”
Hilarious. Great way to make light of this tense-yet-comical situation.
The Coldplay frontman refused to move on with the next part of the show before he got confirmation that the couple they were showing on the jumbotron was legit. And I’ve got to hand it to him… it was a masterclass in the comedic callback. That, or Chris Martin was seriously rattled from the night before:
“Do you understand English? Okay, I’m just gonna risk it. Can you hear me? My brother. Can you hear me? Okay, good.”
It’s the story that just keep giving.
I’ve also got to point out that a sign that may or may not be displayed at Coldplay concerts really could have been useful for two people in particular a couple of days ago. This signage featured below includes specific dates, but it’s possible that Coldplay puts this message out for every show that they conduct:
“Music of the Spheres World Tour… filming in progress. By entering this space, you are consenting to being filmed and agree that your likeness in the film may be used for future promotional and commercial exploitation.”
If only Andy Byron and his mistress would have caught a glimpse of this…
