This guy is destined to be a star.
There’s a number of football players that have gone viral over the years for having… let’s just say unique names. Seems like parents that really take a swing naming their children end up reaping the benefits later down the road. Correlation doesn’t always mean causation, but there does seem to be a trend of funny named football players having success, or at the very least playing collegiately.
Here’s a list of real college football players that have made headlines recently:
-Rowdy Beers (played at FIU)
-Decoldest Crawford (played at Louisiana Tech)
-General Booty (played at Louisiana Monroe)
-De’Realyst Clark (played for Defiance College)
-Memorable Factor (played for Duke)
-Boobie Feaster (set to play for USC in 2026)
And guess what? We’ve got another name that will soon join that list of crazily named college football players… and his name is SirPaul Cheeks. Is having the last name “Cheeks” unfortunate? Considering that word is now synonymous with something being bad, yes I’d say it is. But is your last name instantly redeemed by a first name that invokes arguably the most famous member of the Beatles (Sir Paul McCartney)?
Though I’m not sure what the definitive answer to that question is, I’d say yes.
The 3-star, 5-foot-9, 185-pound running back from Chesterfield, Virginia recently committed to the Mountaineers, effectively bolstering their future back field unit. He had offers from other schools like Kentucky, Virginia Tech, and South Florida, among others, but ultimately decided that he wanted to suit up for West Virginia.
So SirPaul Cheeks’ commitment was announced, which introduced the world to his apparent nickname that’s even more stunning:
SirPaul “Jesus in Cleats” Cheeks. Absolutely phenomenal name and nickname.
Now I’m not sure as to whether being nicknamed “Jesus in Cleats” is taking the Lord’s name in vein, but I’ve got to admit it’s quite the nickname to pair with the legal name of SirPaul Cheeks. If you ask me, the 3-star recruit has the Triple Crown of names: first name of SirPaul is sick, the last name of Cheeks is unique, and the nickname of “Jesus in Cleats” is just icing on the cake.
And as you might imagine, like the many, random, uniquely-named footballers that came before him, SirPaul Cheeks is getting a lot of attention online:
