Drake Maye appears to be a leader both on and off the football field.
The 22-year-old New England Patriots quarterback impressed a lot of people with his maturity during his rookie year in the NFL. Despite being on a middling Patriots team, Maye showed tremendous potential, and was even selected to the 2025 Pro Bowl.
Now, he heads into his second year in the league with one of the more dangerous things lurking right behind him: Expectations. Fans and critics alike expect for the young QB out of North Carolina to make a huge jump in his sophomore season, and though he’s certainly been putting the work in during the offseason, there was one other big life event that took up a lot of his time and energy this summer.
His wedding:
Maye and his longtime sweetheart, Ann Michael Hudson, tied the know back in June. Based on the pictures above, the wedding looked to be lovely, and something that took place during the wedding – or after I suppose – was a very generous act of giving by the bride and groom.
According to a report from Patriots radio analyst Scott Zolak, any and every gift that Drake and Ann Michael received on their big day was quietly donated to people in need. During an episode of Zolak & Bertrand, the Sports Hub radio host shared that the Mayes’ first act as a married couple was to take everything that was gifted to them as wedding presents and give it all to the less fortunate:
“So the wedding gifts. He didn’t tell anybody, and he had this supposed deal with his wife… They did a lot of donating with the local kids shelters and stuff for the area he grew up in and some kids didn’t have (right) size shoes, didn’t have some Christmas stuff.
They didn’t tell anybody, but they took their wedding gifts and sent them to the homeless and help centers down there. Everything that they got, they forwarded it. They got no wedding gifts, didn’t receive any.”

That right there is both a class act and a great way to enter into your married life.
Obviously, the Mayes are in a spot where the freshly married couple can more than afford to give away their wedding presents. Drake Maye is currently in a four-year rookie deal that has over $35 million guaranteed. Still though… to take the one time people shower you with presents and turn it around and give it all back to charity is a pretty cool gesture. Not sure if the guests will agree…
Safe to say the Mayes are a giving couple, and though I’m not a Patriots fan, it’ll be hard to root against Drake Maye knowing how great of a person he is off the football field.
