Just couldn’t keep it a “Dirty Little Secret” so they had to “Move Along.”
I’m sorry, I couldn’t resist.
While they’re not country, if you grew up in the early 2000s you’re no doubt familiar with the pop punk band The All-American Rejects. The band was formed in Stillwater, Oklahoma in 1999, and had massive success in the early 2000s with songs like “Swing, Swing,” “Gives You Hell” and “Dirty Little Secret.”
It’s been a while since they’ve had a major hit (or maybe it hasn’t and I just haven’t been paying attention) but recently the band has been getting a ton of attention for their House Party Tour, where they go around to different cities and play surprise pop-up shows at random houses.
Of course a band as big as AAR playing in somebody’s backyard is bound to cause some problems. Over the weekend, they played a show in a backyard in Columbia, Missouri, but ultimately got shut down by the police after just a few songs – but luckily the officers let them play one more song before they had to pack it up:
@lindsayyyrose Security called the lieutenant and he’s ended up being a fan so we got to hear Gives You Hell! Thank you @All-American Rejects for everything! #givesyouhell #theallamericanrejects #columbiamo
Well today, the band had planned on hosting their next house party show here in Nashville…but unfortunately those plans were quickly derailed.
The band posted a link to RSVP and planned on sending out the location just before the show. But somebody just couldn’t keep their mouth shut and leaked the location, which resulted in a line forming around the block of this poor neighborhood before the location was even announced.
@theallamericanrejects Nashville – We’re sorry to let anyone down and we will be sure to text you when we hit your market again soon. #housepartytour
They ended up receiving 16,000 (that’s SIXTEEN THOUSAND) RSVPs for a HOUSE PARTY, so this evening the band released a statement announcing that they were working on a backup plan:
“Hi everyone, unfortunately someone in Nashville leaked the location and there is already a line around the block despite us wanting to prioritize all of you who RSVPed. We do not have the infrastructure to support the 16,000 RSVPs for tonight’s party and are currently unsure if we will be able to play tonight now for security reasons. If we do, we are going to livestream the event on tiktok so that you can still enjoy and are very sorry to let anyone down.”
Well as they say, the show must go on, and the band ended up playing in the backyard anyway – although from the looks of it, a lot of the people who were lined up never made it inside for the show. There were even reports that people were on the street renting ladders so that folks could look over the fence into the yard.
@maddyynk This is starting to get crazy back here 💀 #nashville
What a mess.
Honestly though, it’s a pretty cool idea. It’s not often that you get to see a band as big as the All-American Rejects playing in a random backyard…but unfortunately I feel like they’ve outgrown the backyard concert tour and probably won’t be able to do this very often, at least not in major cities like Nashville.
I mean, with 16,000 RSVPs, they could have pretty much sold out Bridgestone Arena. But where’s the fun in that?
