Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill has let the world know how he felt about the now deleted Indianapolis Colts schedule release video.
Year after year, the NFL schedule release has become more and more intricate. As a fan, you used to just check the schedule once it was out and say, “Oh cool, my favorite team plays this other team in Week 1” and so on and so forth. But now, NFL teams craft elaborate, high budget videos to officially let fan bases know what their team’s schedule for the upcoming year will look like.
The Indianapolis Colts worked really hard on their announcement… only for it to be deleted shortly after it was posted.
They’ve since pivoted and posted an “NBA Paint inspired” schedule, but they originally had a Minecraft themed video. The Colts quickly tried to erase it from the internet (it didn’t work, the internet is forever) after they got some backlash for featuring a segment showing a Dolphin with a Tyreek Hill jersey on getting arrested. Indianapolis said they took it down because of that and some issues with Microsoft.
Check it out:
Does that warrant a “yikers?”
Like I said, that video wasn’t up for very long on the official Indianapolis Colts social media account. The football team then quickly released a statement explaining why they took their schedule release video down, and offered up an apology to Tyreek Hill – who was arrested and put in handcuffs prior to a game just last season:
“We removed our schedule release video because it exceeded our rights with Microsoft and included an insensitive clip involving Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill. We sincerely apologize to Microsoft and Tyreek.”
Spoiler alert: Tyreek Hill did not accept the Colts’ apology.
That’s because the Miami Dolphins wide receiver didn’t really see a problem with it. He actually found it comical, and based on this response from the NFL star, he didn’t feel there was a need for an apology:
“Should’ve left it up Colts, this was funny.”
Classic example of a funny joke getting a hypersensitive response that then leads to it’s cancelation.
When the guy who was the butt of the joke comes out and says it was funny, that should dispel any belief that the video was offensive. In fact, if the Indianapolis Colts didn’t also have the issue with Microsoft, which I imagine might be the main reason they took the whole thing down vs just fixing the Tyreek part (don’t want to get sued), I’d say they should go ahead and put it back up. Tyreek Hill would certainly be okay with it… you want to know how I know that?
He’s now making self-deprecating content about the incident and capitalizing on the whole pseudo-controversy:
@tyreekhill Should’ve left it up Ngl 🤣 #Colts #Funny #Fyp ♬ original sound – Sir Jiro
