The Texas troubadour does it again.
Cody Jinks has always been in a league of his own, but he is reminding fans leading up to the release date of his 11th studio record, In My Blood. When Jinks announced the forthcoming record, he noted that In My Blood is the next chapter of Change The Game, building off the sound and rawness created in his last studio record.
“I think that ‘In My Blood,’ the song itself could be taken as the next chapter of ‘Change the Game.’ We know what we did. We know where we’ve been. We know what we’ve done. ‘In My Blood’ is why we keep doing it.
You’re on a journey with me. My life is my records. Nothing’s changed. This album was me, my band, producers and engineers. That’s as real as it gets. That’s as authentic as I can make it. Excited to share my new album ‘In My Blood’ drops July 25th.”
In Change the Game, Jinks highlighted messages of growing in sobriety and maturing, and “Found” expands on those thoughts, referencing how thankful he is that he no longer looks to the bottom of the bottle. Written by Ward Davis, Brent Sherokey, and Andrew Peebles, “Found,” is a message of hope and encouragement to the masses. A tone setter for the new record, it reminds fans to keep pushing for truth and purpose through the obstacles of life, the monotony, all the moments of confusion and despair. Jinks sings of a man who has looked to the world, to Western medicine, and nearly everything in between to kick his sinner-like habits, and questions how far he must go on this road before he finds his way back to the right path.
“Preacher says that I’ll find it in the Bible
Doctor says that it’s in this pill
About died tryin’ to find it at the bottom of a bottle from a copper Jack Daniels still
How far can a road keep goin’?
How deep can a hole go down?
How lost is a sinner like me gonna have to be
Before he gets found?”
Jink has been vocal about finding sobriety as of late, and it feels like he’s intertwined his experiences into the lyrics of “Found.”
“August 9th, 2023. My kids saw me fall down drunk for the last time, actually. I never drank again. I woke up the next day and I was like, ‘This is a problem.’ Cold turkey, right in the middle of a tour, I went back out on the road. I had to learn how to stay sober on a tour bus, I took my first plane ride sober when I was 43. Did my first show sober, everything, recorded my first song sober.”
On the Jarrod Morris Vibe podcast, he candidly shared that he does not remember large chunks of his career because of his relationship with alcohol. Jinks also touched on his “twenty-plus year affair with whiskey” when he wrote “Sober Thing,” which appeared on Change The Game. Jinks said every word of that song was true, and he will never forget writing a track like that.
“Found” feels like he’s building off of “Sober Thing.” Now that he has made this life change, he can reflect on all the actions he thought would help him slow down with his drinking. While “Sober Thing” details the painful truths you must face when changing that portion of your life, “Found” highlights the hopeful side, knowing you were saved and can move forward in a new light.
Talk about a debut single for this record… I can’t wait to see what else Jinks has in store.
Turn this one up to max volume.
