Sam Elliott Has Officially Been Added To The Cast Of ‘Landman’ Season 2

Landman breaking out the big guns for Season 2… and by big guns, I mean the world class, mustachioed actor known as Sam Elliot.

Paramount+ ordered a second season of the hit show early last month, and though it doesn’t come as a surprise, fans had been anxiously waiting for a confirmation before then. Especially after the first season ended with a cameo from Andy Garcia that’s obviously meant to spin into a main character role in the second season.

And now, production on the second act of Taylor Sheridan’s drama series – starring Billy Bob Thornton, Demi Moore, Ali Larter, Jacob Lofland, Michelle Randolph, among others – has begun. Fans will surely be happy to hear that, since they flocked to the streaming service to watch the first season of Landman. It set a streaming record for Paramount+ last year when more than 14.9 million people tuned in during the show’s first four weeks.

I’ve got a feeling that those numbers will only be helped by Sam Elliott joining the cast for Season 2, which has now been confirmed by Variety.

Though I have to mention that Puck’s Matthew Belloni was the first to report that Elliott would likely join the cast of Landman in the show’s second act. It only feels right to point out the initial scoop now that it’s confirmed that the seasoned cowboy-type – who turned 80-years-old last year – will reunite with show creator Taylor Sheridan on his hit series.

Fans of anything and everything Taylor Sheridan will likely remember that Sam Elliott formerly starred in Sheridan’s Yellowstone prequel series 1883, playing Shea Brennan. Funny enough, that prequel also featured Billy Bob Thornton. Taylor Sheridan must have liked the on-screen chemistry that he saw from the pair and decided to “run it back,” if you will. I think it’ll be a very popular decision by the show runner.

Elliott will join the fan-favorite cast to carry the show past the death of Jon Hamm’s Monty Miller. It only makes sense that Sheridan would bring in another A-lister since Hamm, to borrow a quote from Rick Pitino, “won’t be walking through that door.” As of right now, further details about what Elliott’s character in the second season of Landman are unknown… but I selfishly hope that he’ll play a character that shares a good amount of screen time with Billy Bob Thornton.

Regardless, fans and critics alike are excited for the show to return – as are the big wigs over at Paramount. Chris McCarthy, the CEO of Paramount Global, had this to say about the success of Landman’s first season and the return of the hit series:

“Landman was one of the biggest shows of the year because of Taylor Sheridan’s unique ability to tap into the cultural zeitgeist, harnessing the Neo-western themes of rugged individualism, ambition and working-class struggles set against contemporary debates around energy, climate change and economic growth.”

With production of the show starting earlier this month, the second season airing sometime later this year can’t be ruled out. At the very least, fans should expect Landman Season 2 to become available in early 2026. That’s great news if you ask me… but it’s admittedly still a ways off. Somehow, knowing that Sam Elliott will be included – hopefully opposite of Billy Bob Thornton (a lot) – makes the wait a little bit more manageable.
