Enough is enough… I have to say something.
What happened to the days where sports analysts cared about how they presented themselves? Clean, professional attire that made you take seriously what they were saying, isn’t that better than the world we’re living in now?
Let me be clear, I’m not referring to Pat McAfee here. His whole schtick is being a sports doofus; if he started breaking out ties instead of tanks we’d have to call in a wellness check because that would be straight up weird.
No, I’m referring to the talking heads on ESPN that consistently show up in a suit, no tie, some ridiculous undershirt, and blazingly white shoes. For some reason, that’s become “trendy” in recent years and I just absolutely cannot understand why. That’s what my friends wore to high school prom because they wanted to be “cool”, are we really going to accept 40 and 50 year old, fully grown men that want to be taken seriously wearing what the basketball team showed up in at homecoming?
Apparently so because this is what the ESPN set looks like these days. Ignore the content, I didn’t actually watch the video, but Stephen A Smith is the only guy with the standards to dress up while the other two dudes looked like 12 year old’s that dressed themselves.
Okay, in that clip it’s really just the shoes that got me fired up, the suits themselves are actually pretty nice, but my point still stands because look at this clash of colors that Dan Orlovsky wore a different day:
Well at tonight’s NFL Draft, the insider of all insiders, the man whose Twitter/X feed the entire football community lives around during the offseason because he’s near always the first to break big news, Adam Schefter, showed up looking like a complete buffoon.
On one of the most important days of his year, Adam Schefter showed up wearing a sportscoat (good start) with a hoodie underneath (couldn’t be worse). And still wearing the tie underneath all of it is just diabolical…
DUDE WHAT ARE YOU DOING? DO YOU HAVE ANY RESPECT? AREN’T YOU EMBARRASSED?
Before anyone gives me the “Noooo Green Bay is so cold!” it’s 50 degrees right now, far from cold… And also don’t give me the whole “What does it matter what someone wears?” because it absolute does matter what someone wears in a professional setting. How you dress is the image you are projecting out into the world. As a country, our standards have never been lower when leaving the house (go to Walmart real quick and let me know what you see) and if we truly want to “Make America Great Again” we need to go back to an era where people want to be presentable in public. Kids growing up seeing high level, prominent people like Adam Schefter, on a day where all eyes are on him, shaming a suit with a hoodie underneath is just plain horrible.
Think I’m the only one complaining about this? Oh no no, take a look at some of these comments on X:
I am far from alone in this criticism.
We, as a people of the United States of America, need to speak out against behavior like this and fortunately it seems tonight is a step in the right direction.
Adam Schefter, grow up man. Take the hoodie off and just wear the suit and tie. It looks SO much better than whatever BS you trotted out tonight.
