A List Of Every National Park In Every State (There’s More Than You Think)

Bison old faithful Yellowstone
BYU University

While America birthed many great ideas and ideals into the world, National Parks may just be our greatest accomplishment.

There are over 400 National Parks of various types and sizes across this great country of ours, including National Battlefields, Historical Parks, Lakeshores, Memorials, Monuments, Reserves, Scenic Trails, and of course the classic National Park. Each provides unique outdoors recreational and educational opportunities for every person, old and young, in a tradition that dates back to 1872.

While President Theodore Roosevelt (rightly) gets the majority of historical credit for maintaining vast swaths of uninhibited ecosystems where flora, fauna, and humans can pretty much roam freely, it was actually President Ulysses S. Grant who signed The Act of Dedication law on March 1st, 1872 that created Yellowstone National Park, the first of its kind in the world. That kicked off a series of authorizations by the federal government protecting all types of habitat from development and destruction.

The full history of the parks is maybe something we can dive into later, but for now let’s find out which of the National Parks and other sites are the closest to you.
