Keepin’ it classy.
Luke Combs met his wife, Nicole Hocking, in 2016 at a songwriters festival in Florida, and at the time, she was working at the event for BMI (a company that oversees all the rights and publishing for songwriters and artists), and they were both single at the time. In an interview with Shawn Johnson and Andrew East on their Couple Things podcast a while back, Luke recalled being dressed pretty casually dressed when they met.
He said he was wearing camo gym shorts from Walmart and the “oldest t-shirt” he owned:
“I was wearing camo gym shorts from Walmart. Classy, classy stuff… And like the oldest T-shirt that I owned.”
Hey, he was kind of on vacation…
Nicole recalled that it was, in fact, very old, so much so that it had holes in it:
“It had holes in it. We were both single. I was leaving a songwriters round and he was walking up late to it. I was just like, ‘Hey, come hang out with us, why are you by yourself?'”
They hung out all night, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Actually, Luke has said before that he was still driving his high school car at the time, and had barely even gotten started in “making it” in any was in the music industry.
They got married in August of 2020 in Florida, and have since welcomed two little boys, Tex and Beau. Of course, Luke wrote his hit “Beautiful Crazy” about Nicole, which he wrote before they were even officially dating… which would probably be weird for anyone else other than Luke Combs, but obviously, it worked.
Luke wrote “Beautiful Crazy” with Wyatt Durrette and Robert Williford, and it was included as a bonus track to his 2017 debut album This One’s for You, and spent multiple weeks at the top spot on the country radio charts. Additionally, the song was certified Diamond by the RIAA in 2023, and it has sold over 610,000 copies in the United States as of 2020.
He has a limited run of tour dates this year, and recently said he’s been working on his next album, saying he’s really excited about it and it could end up being the “best record” he’s ever made:
I’ve been spending the last couple of weeks working on what my next record looks like and as it begins to take shape I can honestly say I’ve never felt better about one at this stage. It’s early on but I really do think it could wind up being the best record I’ve ever made.
