Over the weekend, Braxton Keith unknowingly started some internet drama after telling his audience this isn’t “a Gavin Adcock concert” after trying to get fans to stop throwing beer cans on the stage. During a show in Gilmer, Texas, Keith paused the show after a few beer cans came flying toward him and his band.
Keith got visibly upset, pausing the music and addressing the crowd to cut it out.
“Hey, listen up. Pause this sh*t. Pause this sh*t right f**king now. I didn’t come here to get beer cans thrown at me, alright? This isn’t a goddamn Gavin Adcock concert, okay? Don’t be throwing f**king beers out here. These people at the front are gettin’ wet up here and it’s gonna piss them off and it’s gonna piss me off.
This little girl right here’s never been to a country concert before, and it’s her first damn time, okay? We’re gonna have a good show for her, okay? Alright, I just want to get myself clear. I’m not Gavin Adcock, okay. I’m Braxton motherf**king Keith, okay?”
Keith shared the video of him saying this to the crowd to prove that this is not acceptable concert behavior, even noting that he doesn’t think it’s acceptable for Gavin Adcock’s fans to be doing the same:
“Please watch the entire video. This is unacceptable behavior for any concert including my brother Gavin Adcock. Nobody likes beer and trash getting thrown at them. I love live music and when given the opportunity to speak up about unruliness in the concert community, I will protect my audience, band, crew, equipment, and most importantly, the integrity of live performance experiences.”
Many artists flooded the comments praising Keith for shutting it down and keeping his fans in line, including Southall, Jesse Daniel, Cody Canada, and more. And look, I don’t think it was a knock on Gavin at all… his concerts are rowdy as all hell, that’s why country music fans love him. But you certainly can’t get away that kind of atmosphere at every show you go to.
However, once Gavin Adcock saw this footage, he was unhappy that Braxton Keith was bringing him into the drama. Given that Adcock is known for having rowdy fans, which he encourages, he did not like that his name was used to settle down his fans. Gavin also fights for his fans’ safety and it sounds like he may have seen it as a jab more than anything. This led Adcock to comment on social media posts, noting that Keith needs to learn how to handle his fans without bringing someone else’s name into it.
But Adcock isn’t done. Last night, he took to social media playing leaning into the internet feud, posting a carousel of static images with the caption:
“Let ’em talk. I got work to do.”
Gavin followed that post, playing off of Keith’s line, ” This ain’t a Gavin Adcock concert.” He created a highlight reel of his fans and himself being rowdy and slinging beer during his shows, jabbing at Keith in the caption that his concerts are not like Keith’s one bit.
“It sure ain’t.”
While I understand why Adcock could take this the wrong way, I don’t think Braxton Keith would have tagged him in the caption of his video if he was throwing out his name in a shady way. Although Adcock’s fans are on the wilder side, matching his energy on stage, we have also seen times when his fans are too rowdy, leading to fights and other instances that put his fans in danger.
It’s clear that both of these men want nothing but their fans to have a safe and fun time while enjoying their music. At the end of the day, that’s what it’s all about. Sure, Keith could have left Adcock’s name out if he was trying to control his fans, but I don’t think it was done with malicious intent.
I hope these two don’t keep beefing because they are both bright stars for the future of country music. Hey, on the bright side, at least they are both getting some great viral moments out of this drama.
Fire up a song from both of these men while you’re here.
“Never Call Again”
“Chase You Down”
