Honoring the legacy of Dolly Parton.
Today, the Country Music Hall of Fame announced a new exhibit focusing on her life and career called Dolly Parton: Journey of a Seeker, which will showcase important moments, and artifacts, from her legendary career:
“Even among living legends, Dolly Parton’s star shines with unusual brilliance. Her fame casts a wider, brighter light today than at any time in her career of sixty-plus years. The Country Music Hall of Fame member has enjoyed seemingly effortless success as a singer, songwriter, movie and television actor, author, businesswoman, and philanthropist ever since she first hit the record charts in 1967.
In truth, however, her achievements required determination to get past those who tried to limit the scale of her dreams. This exhibition focuses on turning points in Parton’s life and career through the decades, where she overcame obstacles and ignored naysayers to become one of the most beloved and widely recognized celebrities across the world.”
Dolly was inducted to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1999, and has obviously become a music and cultural icon, garnering hits and awards for decades while still somehow being more know for her vibrant personality and generous philanthropic efforts. The museum will showcase items like the first draft of handwritten lyrics to “Jolene,” the cassette tape recorder she used to write songs like “I Will Always Love You,” some of her most famous and beloved outfits, guitars and many other cool mementos she’s kept all these years.
Kyle Young, chief executive officer of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, says it’s an honor to put this exhibit on for one of, if not the most, iconic and recognizable figures in country music:
“After accomplishing enough for three lifetimes, Dolly Parton continues astounding and amazing us with her boundless talent, vivacious wit and tremendous generosity. Like all great artists, Parton has demonstrated consistently that she can transform adversity and setbacks into works of stunning beauty and insight into the human condition.”
Dolly says being inducted into the Hall of Fame was one of the “greatest moments” of her life, so this is a natural extension of that and she can’t wait for fans to see it:
“Being inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame was one of the greatest moments of my life, and being able to have a personal exhibit for the fans that put me there is a very big deal to me. This seeker is very proud and honored, and I hope you enjoy my journey. I will always love you.”
The exhibit opens up in May, and will run through September of this year. The Country Music Hall of Fame is always a great stop when you’re in Nashville, but if you’re a mega fan of Dolly like me, this is a can’t-miss exhibit and something you definitely need to put on your list if you’ll be in town while this is running.
