Well, at least he has a sense of humor…
Morgan Wallen has of course been making headlines for his abrupt exit after being the musical guest on Saturday Night Live this past weekend, but he also just appeared as a guest on Theo Von’s This Past Weekend podcast, where he talked about his new album and caused a stir online after saying he turned Keith Whitley’s “Miami, My Amy” into a “rap style” song.
But another clip is getting some attention online now too, when Morgan told Theo about this new hobby, riding motorcycles, and how it allows him to be anonymous and not have to focus on anything else but riding:
“I enjoy it… yeah. I kind of had ridden dirt bikes and stuff a little bit, enough to understand my way around a bike already, so me and Cody and TD and a few others, we all got bikes.”
Theo pulled up a photo of Morgan with his motorcycle that looked like a cologne commercial, and Theo laughed as he said:
“What if you had to blow to start that thing? One of those breathe things on it?”
Well, considering Morgan’s checkered past and (I’m guessing) alcohol-induced bad decisions like the infamous “chair” incident, he took it well and laughed as he said he was “surprised” he doesn’t have a breathalyzer on every vehicle he owns:
“I’m surprised I don’t… I’m surprised I don’t have that on every vehicle I’ve got. Shoutout to Davidson county.”
Of course, last year, Morgan was arrested and charged with three counts of felony reckless endangerment and one count of disorderly conduct after throwing a chair off the roof of Eric Church’s bar, Chief’s, in Nashville. He pled guilty to misdemeanor reckless endangerment in Davidson County court in December of last year, bringing to an end a legal saga that started in April of 2024.
The chair reportedly landed near two Nashville police officers who were standing on the sidewalk below, and Morgan was pointed out by patrons on the rooftop as the one who threw it. It was then confirmed by surveillance video, and Judge Cynthia Chappell ultimately sentenced the singer to 11 months and 29 days in jail on each count, with all but seven days suspended. Those seven days are to be served in a DUI education center. The remainder of his sentence will be served on supervised probation, and will be served consecutively for a total of two years on probation.
The plea agreement is subject to judicial diversion, which means that Morgan will be able to petition the court to have his record expunged if he successfully completes probation.
He also told Theo that he hasn’t been in a bar since that night, admitting that it’s probably “the best thing for him,” and that seems to be a smart move and hopefully something he can stick to for a while. And it sounds like he’s found other hobbies that work for him, and are more productive, than being in a bar getting into trouble:
“I like it because you’ve got your helmet on, nobody knows who you are, you’ve got to focus on it too. You ain’t on your phone, you ain’t doing anything else, you’re just thinking about what you’ve gotta do on that bike. So I enjoy that aspect of it a lot.”
While Morgan seemingly didn’t find the humor in SNL this time around, he at least finds humor in his own life and can laugh at himself:
