A classic.
Last night, Riley Green shared a beautiful acoustic rendition of Travis Tritt’s 90’s heater “Drift Off to Dream,” which Tritt co-wrote with Stewart Harris. It was released in January of 1991 as the fifth and final single from his debut album Country Club, and peaked at #3 in the country charts in the United States, and became his third number-one hit in Canada.
While it may not stand out as one of his signature songs, the lyrics are so beautiful and it’s an underrated song of Tritt’s for sure, so I love that Riley is spotlighting it. He really has great taste in the oldies (okay, I know this song isn’t that old, but you know what I mean), and I would seriously love for him to do a full-on classic country covers album one day.
Riley shared the song with the simple caption:
“What a song.”
It’s true… and I could listen to him sing it all day long. One of the top comments on his Instagram video summed up my thoughts exactly:
“We need an album of all 90’s covers asap. Thanks!”
Like, seriously, Riley… what are you waiting for? The people want it:
Riley put out a great album called Don’t Mind If I Do last year, but he’s been teasing some unreleased music lately, including a great one (a heartbreaker, of course) called “My Way”:
Riley is also gearing up to hit the road for his extensive Damn Country Music tour this year, which features Ella Langley as direct support and other openers in Jake Worthington, Drake White and more.
